General Discussion / Re: Emission Stickers 69 Camaro
« on: February 19, 2019, 12:25:59 PM »
I feel for you guys that live in CA. My wife and I like to visit such a pretty state but man what a pita to have to live there.
Here in NC, I run whatever license plate looks good with the color of my car. I.e. I run a black CA tag on my Gold 69 RS Z and a black CA tag on my Maroon 67 Vette. I keep the antique tag in the car at all times. Cops have been behind me and don't do a thing other than give me a thumbs up when they pass me. I admit I live in Nascar/Car country in Charlotte. The nascar teams are based 20 miles north in Concord. So the car culture here alive and well.

It is not known how availability of COPOs 9560, 9561 & 9737 was communicated throughout the dealer network. Legend has it they were supposed to be exclusive to their respective dealerships, Gibb Chevrolet and Yenko Chevrolet. But Berger Chevrolet learned of them early on and initially ordered one of each. Their ZL1 [body # 211785] was actually ordered prior to Gibbs' 50 car order.

What a great list of cars to chose from. Man, several 4:56 geared cars. So cool

I've seen several 1969 dealer ads announcing the availability of 427 Camaros.   Guess the secret got out at some point.

Did the L78 in 69 come with engine lift hooks? If so were they painted silver like the intake or were they orange?

Thanks guys

I have had good luck preserving mine with Boeshield after I had them re arched. The color the Boeshield leaves on them is close to the right color.

Maintenance / Re: Coil Issues
« on: July 01, 2018, 12:18:24 PM »
Its probably the coil. If you test a stock dist. with points on a Sun machine the points will start to bounce at around 4500rpm.
This causes a weak waste spark ATDC and a weak coil cannot recover from this.
With a strong coil this waste spark has no effect on performance.
This can be clearly seen on the Sun Dist. scope.
Great info thanks. I bet the points are bouncing. No idea how old they are.

Maintenance / Coil Issues
« on: March 10, 2018, 06:24:06 PM »
I wanted to share a problem that I had and the end result to fix. I had a misfire at 4500 rpm seemed like a lean problem. So I checked the carb, and ended up rebuilding it which was not the problem. Then changed the fuel pump which resulted in me removing the smog pump to get to the fuel pump. Still not the problem. So I changed out the old 293 coil with a Mallory coil that I have had for 24 years. Bingo bad coil. Since I did not have the correct number coil, I ordered a repo coil with the "298" embossed on the part, correct for a 69 Z28. I thought new coil should take care of the problem. Nope, same misfire at 4500 rpm. Put the old Mallory coil ran great. I thought maybe my plug wires had aged so put in good relatively new wires with the new 298 coil...misfire. So this told me the coil was bad for sure. So put the Mallory coil back in the car, and then put the crappy "correct" date coded Packard wires back on. Car runs great now. But previously I had the old 293 coil on the car with the Packard wires and the car ran fine. Just over the time has this problem surfaced. So I am wondering if I still have a problem masked by the better high output coil?

No I have not figured it out. I did "tweak" the bar Charley was referring to and did not seem like it helped. Maybe I was tweaking the wrong part. I don't have the car home at the moment. It is at the shop and I have been working on other cars. Let me know if you fix your problem John.

Lol,  I don't necessarily jump to that conclusion because there isn't a pic of it.   With forgery being such an issue these days I'm not so sure I'd put a pic up of my own tag for the world to see if it were for sale. Next thing ya know an identical repop tag shows up on a rebody somewhere.   Serious buyer? Wanna see it, come look at it is what I would say.  Call and ask the right questions would likely remove any doubt.  Not serious enough to look at the car in person then he's likely not a buyer anyway.   I've sold a lot of stuff in the past, and you waste a ton of time on people like that.  I don't waste too much energy with that anymore.

Just looking at it from a seller perspective.  On the flip side, being a dealer shies me away

Neat car none the less.

Totally agree!
