Maintenance / 69 Key cylinder will not go to Accessory
« on: March 23, 2014, 03:26:06 PM »
I can't get my key to go to accessory. I have adjusted the linkage on the steering column. With no luck. The reverse back up is not connected and have tried to move the lever that is on the column in the engine compartment that connects to the reverse linkage and I don't get much movement. I am suspecting that there is something jammed in the cylinder area that is causing the reverse lockout lever to only turn about 1/2 inch. I have never removed the cylinder and seems to be a tedious job. I want to hook up the reverse lock out linkage and am stumped at this point.

Any thoughts or ideas?

Thanks,

Lawrence

General Discussion / Survivor 69 Z back on ebay

I have seen this car and it is a nice survivor with a few bumps and bruises, but this guy is unrealistic on price IMO.

Restoration / Wiring Harness
« on: February 24, 2014, 12:38:01 PM »
Guys,
I am going to put a new wiring harness on the Silver convertible, and wanted to get one with the correct color clips that attach the harness to the body. I have used M&H and Lectric Limited with success on my Corvettes but have not replaced a wiring harness on my Camaros. Can someone suggest a company that makes a harness with the correct color clips taped in the harness? Of course the fit has to be good too.

Thanks,

Lawrence

Maintenance / Trouble shooting cig lighter
« on: February 18, 2014, 01:29:55 AM »
The cig lighter on my Silver Z does not work. I have 12 volts on the flange inside the cylinder of the lighter. My lighter works, tested it in the Gold car. I am guessing when you push the lighter in for it to heat the flange in the cylinder slides in the lighter and the circuit has ground somewhere for the lighter to heat? I cleaned up the lighter with a Dremel, cleaned up the the cylinder with a Dremel. Still nothing. Any ideas?

Thanks

Maintenance / Trouble Shooting the Low Fuel light
« on: February 09, 2014, 02:17:27 PM »
I think I have done all I can to trouble shoot my low fuel light not coming on but wanted to post this and see if I have missed anything.

1. I have grounded the light at the dash and the bulb illuminates.
2. I have unplugged the connector in the trunk for the gas gauge, and grounded it. The gauge goes to empty but the low fuel does not illuminate.
3. I have checked the three wires from the low fuel module and they are all connected to the fuel gauge. The plug with the yellow wire going to it is connected under the gauge cluster in the console.
4. I have confirmed the wiring harness at the back of the console is connected.

I guess I am going to have to replace the module at this point. UNLESS anyone has any other ideas on how to troubleshoot this. I am looking for a bad connection or loose wire etc. Not sure where else to look. Any ideas?

Thanks

General Discussion / How big of a tire will fit on the front of a 69
« on: February 01, 2014, 04:27:08 PM »
I am thinking about putting four P235 60 R15 on all corners of the Silver Z with the Torque Thrust wheels and will put original style tires on the Rallys. Will this size tire fit the front of the car without rubbing?

General Discussion / How long are you guys running your radials tires
« on: January 30, 2014, 11:45:04 AM »
Guys,

I am starting to get nervous about two sets of BF Goodrich Radial TA's that I am running on two of my cars. Each set I bought in the mid 90's. They have been on and off my cars, stored indoors out of the sun. I am thinking I need to bite the bullet and replace both sets. What do you guys think?

General Discussion / Z28 steering gear
« on: January 29, 2014, 02:15:15 AM »
My Gold Z28 steering is noticeably harder to steer at stand still vs the Silver Z28. Both are manual steering. I read on the site that Z28 with special steering used a shorter steering arm. How can I measure this or what do I measure so I can compare the two?

Thanks,

Originality / Original 69 disc brake master cylinder cap
« on: January 15, 2014, 03:28:40 AM »
I got my master cylinder back from White Post Restoration today. I told them that I wanted 100% original piece and got the cap back in white zinc. I was expecting gold dichromate. The car is a Dec 68 build. Which is correct? Gold dichromate or white zinc?
Thanks

Originality / Intake manifold bolts - 69z28
« on: January 12, 2014, 03:37:23 PM »
Guys,

Has anyone seen an original intake manifold bolt with a bolt head that is a "C" with three radial lines? My Silver Z came with a bucket of fasteners and there are these fasteners with the "C" that are the right number and the right specs as the intake manifold bolts. The car had incorrect intake manifold bolts in it when I got it. My original 67 Vette L79 has these type of fasteners installed in the intake manifold so I am thinking these may be correct for the Silver Z.

Let me know your thoughts

General Discussion / Silver Z pictures from 1971 with second owner
« on: January 11, 2014, 01:58:48 PM »
I just got these pictures from the second owner along with original dealer sales brochures for 1968 and 1969. He also sent me the 20 original lug nuts from the car. I bought NOS window trim from him also. I hope to pick up some other things as he finds them.

Enjoy

Guys
Last year I flew from Charlotte all the way to El Paso to look at this car. The car was not as described. Big bummer. If anyone wants to know about it PM me.
