General Discussion / Re: 1968 RS/SS 396

Speaking of selective memory, silver was not an optional color in '68. Maybe Ash Gold?

seafoam green metallic was kinda silvery looking. I had a 68 327 2bbl car with a/c and black vinyl top back in the day. the green was extreelmly subtle color-wise. I didn't even know it until i looked the color code up.

General Discussion / Re: rear antenna question, 67

Also the trim tag has the rear antenna option code, so if your car didnt have it it would not be on the trim tag.

It shows the option on my trim tag. Since I will be replacing my quarters, I am trying to replicate how it was done in the factory. Unfortunately I am in Indiana and my car is
In Pennsylvania so I can't just go out to the garage to look at my car.

General Discussion / rear antenna question, 67
« on: June 07, 2011, 04:08:44 AM »
I will be replacing my rear quarters on my 67 camaro soon and was wondering about the rear antenna mounting hole in my car. Since not every camaro came with the rear antenna option, how and when was the mounting hole made. Was it punched in the manufacturing process in the press line, which I would assume meant that there would be two different panels for the assembly process, one with and one with out the hole. Or was it introduced while the car was assembled. If while assembled, was it drilled or punched with a jig in the factory?

If it was punched, could someone post the dimensions of the hole. I am in Indiana right now and my car and books are in Pennsylvania. I may be able to get access to machine tooling to make a punch for my new panel, but time is short for me to get it done.

thanx. paul.

Mild Modifications / Re: 69 Camaro Auto Trans Swap

ran across this article a few years ago when I thought of putting a 5 or 6 speed into my car. I haven't done it yet, but would really like to. read the article all the way through, as there are a few issues with going to a newer trans.

also, some info on types.

Originality / Re: What are the colors of each wiring harness tag?
« on: March 25, 2011, 04:49:01 AM »
Are the numbers for date coding or are they used in place of part numbers in the factory? I have a NOS under dash harness with fuse block in the box, but it is NOT for a camaro. I think it is for a chevy truck, '67 style, but am not sure. I bought it for $25 to use for parts to repair my harness, but have not gotten around to that yet. I don't have access to it right now, but I MIGHT be able to grab it this weekend if you think anything on it would help you.

Originality / Re: 1967 ss deluxe interior vs rs interior
« on: October 16, 2010, 02:37:22 PM »
Thanks guys. The door panels, arm rests and sail panels with dome lights were still in my car when i bought it so I knew I needed the narrow rear seat. Oh, and the rear seat should have been the fold down option. I just wanted to make sure that my seats should have the contrasting stripe in them. I really like that look!

Originality / 1967 ss deluxe interior vs rs interior
« on: October 16, 2010, 03:01:43 AM »
I have a 1967 ss 350 car that should have had the deluxe interior in it when i bought the car. Unfortunately the seats, console, and dash cluster was gone before i got the car. I am unsure whether the non- rs deluxe interior (specifically the seats) is the same as an rs interior, which i assume was always deluxe. Specifically I was wondering if my seats should have that contrasting pin stripe, and if there are any other differences that the rs interior came with that my deluxe does not have.

I've wondered about putting power seats in my '67 camaro too. Was this an option for first gen camaros and/or firebirds? Also, if it was an option, was it 2-way, 4-way, or 6-way power? (referring to motions of he seat).

thanx. paul.

General Discussion / Re: Keeping cool
« on: June 30, 2010, 07:10:43 AM »
don't forget about your fan clutch. At least i assume you have one as my 68 a/c car did. Mine was worn out and would cause my car to overheat even without the a/c on in hot weather. After I replaced it, the overheat went away. The fan clutch is not very noticeable and rarely mentioned as a cause for overheating.

a captured washer will spin on the bolt, but you cannot remove it. The "part of the bolt" refers to the type of bolt that has a round, larger diameter feature below the hex head, but before the threads. Kind of like if you put a bolt through a flat washer, and then welded them together.

Originality / Re: power windows
« on: June 22, 2010, 05:54:01 AM »
Since some of the more knowledgeable members haven't chimed in, I'll take a crack at this one.

I'm not an expert, but the rear window regulators should be the same from 67 to 69, the front regulators for 67 are different from the 68, 69. The wiring harness should work the same, but there may be minor differences in wire length, routing through the doors, and how they connect to the fuse panel. The window switches are the same for 67, 68, but I don't know about 69. BTW, the correct switches have rounded corners, not sharp corners. Many GM cars used the same switches. I've always assumed that the switches mount in the same place that the window cranks do.  There are a few vendors offering power window conversions that bolt right in, but the switches are usually not correct. The internals are of course not the same as factory, but who cares since no one will see them. Besides finding an original complete set is next to impossible and will cost you alot more than going with aftermarket stuff.

hope this helps. good luck.
