- Original Dealer documents

I have original shipping invoice (plant to dealer) for this 1968 Camaro L78.  Contains all the info that would be on the window sticker, plus much more, including the name of the original buyer.

Contact me at jeffhelms@ctc.netx (delete the X off the end of the address before sending.  The X is included above just to prevent spam programs from picking up my email address.)

Originality / No Spoilers in 67 ?
« on: August 01, 2008, 04:03:52 AM »
It appears to be universally agreed on the CRG research postings that there were no front or rear spoilers factory installed in 67.   I have 3 questions about that.  (I suspect they've already been answered on here before, but I couldn't find it.  So feel free to start any reply with "Dear Dummy"    :-[  )

1.  The 67 Assembly Instruction Manual has option D80 listed, with diagram of how to install the front spoiler.   The sheet has release date 11-30 (presumably meaning 11-30-66).  It also says to see RPO Z28 for "rear body extension".   If the front spoiler was never available, why is it in the AIM and not marked as "cancelled"?

2.  The Z28 section of the AIM, sheet B2, shows how to paint on the Z28 stripes, and it has a "View C" depicted for "RPO D80", showing the rear spoiler, and a "Section A-A" showing where the stripe stops on a spoiler car.  The Revision Record at the bottom of the page says that View C (spoiler) was added to the AIM on 12-15-66, and that the Section A-A (spoiler stripe detail) was added on 2-16-66.  If the rear spoiler was never available, why is it in the AIM and not marked as "cancelled"?

3.  On the CRG research topics page it is noted that the decklid changed in approx. March/April of 67 to add the spoiler attachment cutouts in the substructure of the decklid.  It is suggested there that this was the "introduction of the 1968 thrunk lid support structure" to the 67 trunk skin.  Couldn't it be that the holes were added to simplify mounting spoilers on 67's, rather than just gearing up for 68?

OK, I'm ready for y'all to educate me now!  :)  Thanks!  Jeff

Restoration / Wiring Diagrams
« on: July 28, 2008, 09:00:01 PM »
Does anyone know where you can get the factory wiring diagrams for a 67 with tach and guages?  The Assembly Manual and the Chassis Service Manual have only the non-guage diagrams.

I looked online and it looks like most of the vendors are just selling photocopies of the assm. manual diagrams.

Thanks for any help!  Jeff

Originality / 67 DG Rally wheel trim rings
« on: July 10, 2008, 04:02:29 AM »
I need to know what version trim rings originally came on a 67 Camaro SS (2nd week November car) with 14x6 DG code rally wheels.  I want to get an NOS or restored set, and saw these on eBay, which look exactly like the originals on my car:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=310065245695

But the seller says that these are not correct for 67 DG Rallies, and that the wider ones in this auction (with the closed valve stem hole) are correct instead:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&viewitem=&ru=http%3A%2F%2Fsearch.ebay.com%3A80%2Fsearch%2Fsearch.dll%3Ffrom%3DR40%26_trksid%3Dm37%26satitle%3D190231887929%26category0%3D%26fvi%3D1&item=190231887929

My car is a survivor 39K mile orignal paint and interior 67 SS350, with the original DG wheels that have never been repainted.  The center caps are the originals too, and the trim rings have the 4 clips on the outer band.  So, given that the entire rest of the car is original I'm pretty confident that the rings are the correct originals too.  But I want to make sure (if anybody knows for sure) before I buy any.

I checked the P&A book dated 10-1-66, and it only lists one trim ring (Group 5.871, part no. 3901318) for all 67 Camaro, Chevelle and Nova w/ J52 disc brakes (whether 5 inch or 6 inch rallies).  That # superceded to 3923522 on 7/67; and the P&A book dated 10-1-67 only lists that one part no. for all 67 Camaro, Chevelle and Nova w/ disc brakes (whether 5 inch or 6 inch rallies).

So that leads me to think that the skinnier version in the first auction listed above (like the ones on my car) is correct, since it was originally used on both 5 inch and 6 inch wheels.  The wider one with the closed hole wouldn't fit on a 5 inch wheel . . .

Any help?  Thanks - Jeff

Decoding/Numbers / Guage cluster codes
« on: July 04, 2008, 03:55:11 AM »
I have a gas guage problem in a 67, which I've been working on and think I've got figured out.  But something else came up during the debugging.  The car is a standard speedo cluster car with only speedo, fuel gauge and idiot lights.  It has a set of add-on guages under the dash, so somebody removed the bulbs from the idiot lights to disable them.

But when I had the flashlight under the dash, I can see that the speedo has the "Fuel" warning light that should only be on a guage/tach car.

So either the speedo has been replaced with the wrong one (most likely), or the entire cluster has been changed but somebody stuck the old gas guage back in the tach hole (not as likely).

The cluster housing has an NH sticker on the back of it.  Can anyone tell me if that is the code for the standard non-guage cluster, or is it the code for the speedo/tach cluster?   If it is the standard cluster, then I just need to change the film in the fuel light hole.  If it is for the guage/tach cluster then I probably just need to get a whole correct cluster and start over.

Thanks for any help - Jeff

Originality / Survivor 67 SS350
« on: March 10, 2008, 03:18:11 AM »
Hello, Jeff here.  As you can tell by my userID I'm mostly a Chevelle guy, but have recently acquired a 39K mile 67 SS350 that is 99.5% untouched original and in incredible condition.  I'm wondering if there is a process with CRG or anyone else to have the car inspected to document the details, finishes, etc., for the benefit of others who are restoring 67's.

The car is original paint and interior, gold with black vinyl top, no rear spoiler, black deluxe interior, bumper guards, AC, PS, PDB (4-piston), DG rallies with original rings and caps in place, powerglide, 12-bolt, posi (oddly enough), buckets, console, fold down rear seat, and push button AM radio.

From 10 feet away you'd think it was just restored.  It still wears its original CA black plates and the tag frames from the selling dealership in Elk Grove CA.  The bottom of the car is clean enough to eat off of, literally, with no evidence it has ever been in the rain.  The subframe even has the date stamp still crisp and clear on the pass side rail, with original spirals and spring tags easily visible.

The only changes I've found are add-on water temp and oil pressure guages, and replacement of the AC compressor belt (still has the other 3 original embossed belts), radiator hoses, battery, mufflers, and 4 tires (spare appears original).

It needs to be documented for others' reference.  Any ideas?  Thanks - Jeff
