Originality / Re: What is the correct coil for my COPO
« on: November 04, 2008, 03:55:27 AM »
Jim,
The coil and bracket are an engine assembly, so the 69 AIM would be of little help.
In this case I used the Chevy By The Numbers and the GM 69 P&A (rev 10-1-69). The CBTN on page 242 shows the 1111499 dist. used on the 69 396 & 427. To verify this I used the 69 P&A 2.361 page 2-24.
The 69 P&A group 2.170 page 2- 4 shows 3 coils 1115202 (1.8 OHM resistance too high), 1115207 (TI coil), 1115238 (1.3 OHM correct resistance). The 293 number you mentioned is used by Rick"s but I think that is an GM assembly number for the coil and bracket. Look at 298 w/cowl induction and 270 wo/cowl induction in Rick's cat.,now go to the 69 P&A group 2.183 page 2-6. 1966876 w/cowl hood and 1971011 wo/cowl hood. The brackets are different not the coils.
Sorry it took so long to respond be am working on a 67 Camaro and 67 Corvette and they take up a lot of my time.

One procedure you can do is go to gaugeguys.com and click on test. This procedure takes out all the variables like tire dia.
Hope this helps!

 Jim,

The distributor you should use is 1111499 with 1115355 vac. advance can and the coil should be 1115238 stamped 238 BR.
Make sure you use the correct dist. or timing curve will be incorrect!
Hope this helps?

Originality / Re: 67 throttle rod bracket @ firewall ( metal to plastic)
« on: November 01, 2008, 08:16:43 PM »
Please use 67 AIM 6 D1 for reference.
Note on 1-4-67 of the revision record that 3863501 support (metal), 9419400 screw,3710620 bushings were removed leaving 3924409 support (plastic),9419380 screw.
Please use 68 AIM 6 D1 for reference.
Note3924409 support (plastic),9419380 screw indicating that the plastic support was carried over from model year 67. The torque on 9419380 was increased form 20-30 in. lbs. to 30-40 in. lbs.
Any idea when this revision would have shown up in production?

Restoration / Re: Carb return spring for 67 L78
« on: November 01, 2008, 06:49:50 PM »
68Z and JohnZ thanks for the reply.
The 67 L78 uses the same type carb (Holley) and does have a wire stand with a hole. The hole on a BB is used for the return spring on auto trans. throttle control rod equipped cars (see AIM M35 A14.5). The 69 AIM Z28 A4 shows your application in better detail.
I think I found the reason for spring attached to the coil clamp screw (69 AIM M40 A9). Looks like this was done on (M40) TH400 L78,L89 (Holley) equipped cars because of the space limitation that the kick down sw. created. I wonder if this holds true of the 68 350HP (Holley) w/M40?
Thanks again.

JohnZ thanks for the reply, your help continues to be greatly appreciated.

Would anyone have a picture of the seal and gasket in question?
Does anyone have a seal and gasket they would part with?

Thanks again.

Originality / 67 throttle rod bracket @ firewall ( metal to plastic)
« on: November 01, 2008, 04:23:15 AM »
Does anyone know when the 67 throttle rod bracket @ the firewall changed from metal w/bushings to plastic wo/bushings? There is also some info that indicates that there were 2 BB throttle levers used in 67 up to 2-8-67 3879422 and after 2-8-67 3912599. Does anyone know the reason for the change?
Does anyone know the finish on the throttle levers?

Restoration / Re: Carb return spring for 67 L78
« on: November 01, 2008, 04:02:27 AM »
Did some research and this is what I found:
67 All 396,427 exc. PG ........................... 3913415 Black   67 AIM L35 A11
67 302 ................................................. 3910965 Yel.    67 AIM Z28 A3
68 Pass,Chevy,Camaro 302,396,427 .......... 3923501 Grn    68 Aim L35 A10, Z28 A2
69 Chevy,Chevelle, Camaro 303,396 .......... 3950210 L Grn  69 AIM L35 A8, Z28 A8

The 67 L78 uses the Black spring but where does the spring mount on the coil. Does it go over the long screw that tightens the bracket up on the coil , like on the 69 (L78,L89)or does it use the hole provided on the coil bracket? Buy the way does anyone know why the 69 is done that way???
John Z, found some info that indicates that there were 2 throttle levers used for the 67 BB up to 2-8-67 3879422 after 2-8-67 3912599. If this is is true, do you know the reason for the change?

Did #4 3883844 Gasket make it into production?
Did #2 3843404 Seal make it into production or was it incorporated into the wiring harness plug?
Please use 67 AIM C60 E1 for reference.
Thanks.

Restoration / Carb return spring for 67 L78
« on: October 14, 2008, 04:50:04 AM »
Does anyone know the color of the 67 L78 carb return spring?
One end goes the carb arm  but where does the other end go ( to the coil bracket or the valve cover). A picture would be great!!!!!
Does anyone have a picture of the 67 BB accelerator lever at the firewall and what was the finish?

Restoration / Re: space saver tire
« on: October 14, 2008, 04:13:22 AM »
Pete,
You are correct, the AIM shows the space saver tire installation but it never went into production on the 67. The same thing happened to the front spoiler (extension)  shown on D80 A1 page 237 of the 67 AIM and the rear extension on Z28 B2 page 438.

Good morning  Big Iron aka  Bob C... Could I send a few pics of this pan to your E-mail addy as my land line is toooo slow, but, I can send under G-Mail with no problem.  I just might have this semi-circular tray you are talkin' about...  Thanks!  Ted
Sure Ted,
I will try to find some pictures of the deep pan in my files and post them there for those that are interested. The pictures will be scanned so they will not be as good as digital.

Ted,
John Z. is absolutely correct that GM (Chevrolet) never made a (production) cut and wielded pan. However Chev. did make a cut and wielded deep sump pan you could buy over the the counter, used with the following parts:

#3879633... 6qt...deep wielded sump...plug on driver side.

#3879640...semi circular windage tray (Corvette discontinued late 70)    I think #3967854 is the later flat version.

#3964255...HD ZL1 pump w/pickup and screen...for deep pan.

This was a drag race pan and not intended for the street. It was used buy the factory teams ( Oh! forgot, Chev. wasn't in racing) and anyone that need a good deep pan for a reasonable price.
