Restoration / making a repop part look better...
« on: April 02, 2016, 09:48:16 PM »
I have been working on the brake system in my 69. I purchased rebuild parts for the prop valve and the hold off valve. I decided to dig out the old parts to compare. Well, I have a new distribution block and it doesn't look close! Looks kinda out of place.

I got out my dremmel tool, stuck on a small grinding stone and went to town using the original as a guide.

Got the shape to look a lot better. Then flattened out the swirl marks on the top with a 90* cookie wheel and used a small punch to put some texture on it.

Then painted with some cast blast to get the finished look. I am happy with the way it came out but still may rebuild the original in the future.

Looks like it is twice the distance that Carlisle is from me 12 1/2 hours and 800 miles. May have to make it a special trip (with a newer truck).

Is Charlotte that good? Never been there.

We go to all of them in the North East and Carlisle. We were thinking of doing Charlotte and Daytona but the cot of getting there may cut down on the others. Any Other ones to consider near New England?

Originality / Re: Subframe bushings, differences between 68 and 69

Bryan, I just looked at my Nos bushings. The 802's look almost identical to the 720's I also thought they were the same just a part number change. upon further inspection the 720's have a metal ring molded into the bushing at the sub frame contact point. Never knew about it until now. The dealer gave me 4 802's when I bought mine. also gave me the 14008366's for the rad mounts. I was told that they were the same height and were used for Novas.

It would be my honor to have you guys check them out! Would 2 pieces 12 inches be good? I guess a week was unrealistic.

Kurt, Send me your shipping address.

Thank you Bentley! It's the info I was looking for!

I am currently trying to get some accurate replacements made, as I feel there may be a need for them. I do know that places sell some so I was looking to get them better and cheaper than current ones available. My goal is a better fitment and look. I do need a couple of people as testers. So If you I can get 2-4 people that can test fit and report back I will send you some for free. I will need some things though.

1) to get it done within a week of receiving them
2) opinion on how it looks compared to what you are using now or original
3) type of hose you are using ie: original or replacements
4) what length should they come?
5) don't be mad if doesn't work (it's free)

If this works for you, Post up if interested then send me an email

it is 10.5 inches. it looks super close to original. it is on there snug. i'm glad it fit over the crimped on fittings and sits on the hose not being loose. the return will be even easier not having to go over fittings. I would love to know the OD of the pressure and return lines from gm.
