Decoding/Numbers / Eight track tape player
« on: July 23, 2009, 06:07:29 PM »
 Hi all,
I need help to ID a DELCO MODEL 7930492 tape deck. It appers to mount at the bottom, has two knobs, one "PROGRAM"
push button, and is black with a grain finish. Was there only one unit for all the different setups? ( am, am/fm, multi-plex, ect)
The unit it self is triangle shaped with a eight pin plug exiting the rear.
  Thank you,

General Discussion / Re: Option ID'ing

Thank you for your time and effort.  My car (68 05C LA RS/SS) never had the dash trim strip. I do not know if it has the Z23 option becuse is does not have the special steering wheel either. It does have the wood grain and bright pedal trim, so i am wondering if  the wood and pedals were stand alone options or if the R/S trim would have added these options and if so would the Z23 option  on a R/S only add the special wheel and dash trim to the interior? I have noticed other 68s that are set up the same as mine. Any body with any input please chim in.
  Thanks to all,

You are correct. As soon as i picked them up the weight difference was felt. My car is an RS/SS anyway so NOW I will paint the valleys semi gloss black. I do not plan on ever being judged but want what I want. It sure seems 68 people are few and far between....(perfect). Thanks for the insight and please post if anything else pops into your head.

My bezel that is painted is # 3927429. Side by side they compair the same except for the painted highlight, there must be a reason for the different part numbers. I considered fading but have so far only seen a few original cars since and it was a front to back thing as opposed to a side to side thing. I am still hoping enough 68 owners are on this site go check their cars and provide me a real pattern of usage. I know it is a small issue but i do want to be correct and know it when another prick like myself pours over the car.

Thanks for the reply.  While cleaning my original parts to reinstall after the cars first real repaint i discovered the difference in the bezels, Old part books list the different #'s. I had raised this issue a couple of weeks ago on this forum but did not ask questions, i thought i could find enough cars around here to compair/inspect but that fell short.
I am in Torrance CA (5 miles south of LAX) so no... I only wish i was at the nationals. I am saying i do not have a clue and do not know about the bezels either. I am leaning to the idea that the fronts were painted and the rears were not , but i would like to hear other opinions. I'm a 05C RS/SS L.A. car.  Victor

I need some observation help regarding original 1968 side marker bezels. It seems that the front bezels were Highlighted with black painted Valleys (# 3925429) and the rear quarter panel belels are not painted ( # 3927459). Other than part books, I have been unable to find any information about this. For the last two weeks i have been attending as many shows/cruises as i could, but was not convinced one way or another. So happens the original painted cars i saw were both L.A. cars and both had the black front bezels and neither owner had ever noticed they were not the same as the rears. (these were standered models) My car has the R/S option. So my questions are: Is this standard?, Part of a trim option?, How is this judged at a show?  If you have any input please post.
 Thank you,

What does the rear of the wheels look like? Can you post a picture of the back? Factory wheels have a nice press/spotweld look as opposed to welded beads, If so.... the centers could be GM, the rim aftermarket.

Thanks for the info. So only the front was hilighted with black paint? Hmmm... Was this applied to all models across the F-body line?  So...was the paint satin, 60%, or gloss?--Ha Ha just kidding.

I found two different front side marker bezels while reassembling my O5C LA RS/SS. one is part # 3925429 and inside the "valley" is painted black. The other is part # 3927459 and is not painted in the "valley". Was one of these part of the RS package?

Drop the bumper or remove the tail lights. If it still has the  factory finish there will be untouched paint. My O5C LA car was glossy since i purchased it in 1980, This year i stripped the car and had it repainted and am now sure it was semi-gloss.

General Discussion / Re: Possible '68 DANA Camaro
« on: June 11, 2009, 02:44:54 AM »
Dana was swapping in 427's September 1966 mabye earlier. Peyton Cramer was a Owner and Dick Guldstrand was the head wrench. Traco and Mickey Thomson were somehow in the backround. The building was still there a few years ago. I spoke to a gentlemen about two years ago that was a salesman at dana till it closed. He was still selling cars at Thousand Oaks chevrolet but was not able to remember any details regarding the hi-perf programs.
These Dana cars seem to be the WMD's of the supercar era. If anyone has any information about these cars please share. There is some info on the net, and in old car mags from late '66. Anybody have pictures?
