Originality / 69 Exhaust Options
« on: April 05, 2008, 11:12:00 PM »
Hey Everybody,

I'm getting ready to purchase and install a new exhaust system and wanted to stay with the stock exhaust I bought it with. I am the second owner. The question I have is this, was there ever an option for a 69 X55 SS to have chrome exhaust tips? Mine do. They are not welded on, the few people that looked at it says it's the original exhaust but wasn't sure the factory would do that, however, the dealer might have. When I replace the exhaust I want to leave it the way it came off the lot.        Thanks, John

Originality / Subframe Bushings
« on: April 02, 2008, 05:06:13 PM »
Hi Guys,
I'm currently going over my new purchase of a 69 Convertible X55 and have a few questions I hope you can guide me through. This car is extremely stock and original. I don't want to change anything that would deter from the originality factor so that's why I have these questions.
1st. My car came with dealer installed air.  Right now it has the regular radiator with a cooler installed in front of it and a flex type fan replacing the stock original fan back in 69 when the dealer installed the air. The current radiator has some problems.  Question is, should I replace as is and leave it as it came from the dealer, or upgrade the radiator. I would like to just replace the original thin radiator with a correct 4 core radiator. I believe this would help keep the car running cooler and not deter from it's originality to much.
2nd. I have to replace the subframe bushings. Question is, should I go with correct rubber or aftermarket poly? I'm getting different opinions on both good and bad.
3rd. I have a small dent in the oil pan by the drainplug and it is not seating tightly. Should I pound it out and keep the original or just put the correct new one in?
The rest of the car is in great condition and I want to leave it as it came off the lot back in 69. Please give me your opinions on these repairs/replacements.

Decoding/Numbers / engine origin
« on: March 30, 2008, 06:20:22 PM »
 Hi Guys,
I took delivery of my 69 SS Convertible Camaro and was told by the seller that the motor was assembled in Tonawanda. Is there some significance to this. The engine # does start with a T and the build date is correct. This is a # matching car. I was just curios about the significance if any.       Thanks.

Originality / 1969 SS hood
« on: March 12, 2008, 04:56:34 AM »
Well, after 9 months of educating and searching and of course with the forums help and wisdom ,I purchased a 1969 SS numbers matching butternut yellow......yes, I said butternut..... convertible X55 code camaro today. As time goes on I'll post some pics but in the meantime I will have upcoming questions starting with this......The SS louvered hood have engineered diecut holes cut out of the hood centered directly underneath each squared louver including through the hood supports. It's tooled that way, it wasn't cut out by hand. I'm under the impression that these louvers were strictly ornamental and the hood was solid underneath them. I'm still learning and would appreciate some input on this. I know the aftermarket hoods are not diecut out this way. Were all original SS hoods diecut? Let me know, Thanks!

Originality / 1969 SS 350 10 bolt rear end
« on: March 04, 2008, 12:59:12 AM »
Hi guys, Can somebody tell me if any 69 SS camaros came with a 10 bolt rear end. I'm looking to purchase a convertible and this seller says it's a true SS. Everything I've ever read or owned says 12 bolt only in a 350 SS. How about some help on this? Thanks!

Originality / '69 Pace car
« on: January 15, 2008, 09:44:45 PM »
I am looking at a 69 Pace car convertible currently offered for sale.  The 350 engine is not original, however I noticed the speedometer goes to 140 mph and the tach goes to 8000 rpm.  I would like to know if this was an original option or was it replaced at one time.  (I thought this particular tach and speedo only came on double copos).

Also, did ALL '69 indy pace cars come equipped only with a power top or did some come with manual tops?

Finally, which is more valuable:  a '69 pace car w/matching 350 engine and rear end but not tranny (changed from auto to 4-speed) OR a '69 pace car without matching 350 engine but with matching tranny and rear end?  Both seem to have pretty similar options, paint and interior quality.

Thanks a lot!
