General Discussion / Axle and gears Question
« on: December 31, 2012, 07:30:58 PM »
The Axle on my Camaro is coded as
JB G272 1 The best I can make out is it is a 8.5 out of a 72 GM product.

I have a Ring and Pinion posi unit.

The Pinion gear is coded 383240   F10
The Ring Gear is GM3790629   12  37  6  65
it has 37 teeth to 12 teeth making it what I believe to be a 3:08
The question is ( of course ) will the Posi ring and pinion unit work in that axle housing.

Any help would be great!
Thanks

Mike

This show is for all Camaros. It is a Gathering of Camaro Enthusiets, all years. If you dont appriciate all Camaros 1st gens to 5th gens this isnt for you. It is not the normal car show limited to just old cars.  There  are young folks old folks and everyting in between. Chevys Scott Settlemire is always in attendance and brings things from GM for the Sunday night fund raiser auction.
I have friends who have all generations of Camaros and we all go.
Yes since the 5th gens came out we have had a influx of new attendees. But I look at this like this. when we were young nobody appriciated our first and second gens.
These young people are like us, if we encourage them they will be the keepers of all our hard work one day.

We have at least 30 in our group. Last year it was about 250 cars to 300. Because of the introduction of the 5th gen attendance has grown. The nice thing about this show is its friendly, everyone has respect for all generations. Its cool seeing the young guys getting into it.
Plus you can park your car and have a safe fun time and not worry about driving home. Cause you are home.

I am in the Ft. Myers area. I am leaving Tuesday, driving to friends in Orlando. Then putting on a trailer and going to ATL Wednesday AM. We are stopping for breakfast at the Ocala Cracker Barrel about 7:00am

Gary,
There is no swap meet. GM brings a display and last year they had a trailer selling trinkets and t-shirts. Ricks is there and Year One, but mostly a small display with discounts on catolog sales if you order at the show. Some other vendors too. Be sure to read all the information on the website.
Main thing to remeber is to have FUN. This is not a typical car show. More like a tailgate party where everyone brings thier Camaros. You will get the whole experiance if you stay at the hotel. What a great bunch of people. Be sure to touch base with the organizers (Fran and Sherry). Also stop in and say hello at the Rev Zone, sponsered by the High Octane Camaro Club. Thats where I will be. I am arriving Wednesday from Florida. Starting Thursday there will be events every night. Dont worry about your car either they have on site security and a cop all night.
If your not with a club you can ask Dave at the Rev Zone if you can park with him. I hope to see you and your Z there!
Mike

High Octane and The Gathering both have Facebook pages that are filled with information about the event also.

My exhaust is on rubber hanger mounts. It is dual of course with a crossover (H) pipe.
I did not have any issues, I just pulled it up and bolted it together. I installed new header gaskets and used sealer.
No problems no leaks.
Good luck

On the sb mounts the previous owner had dented the headers to make then fit with the power steering unit.
Once I put the BB mounts in there was all kinds of room.

Nice looking car Mike...

Off topic to some degree I grant you, but could you relate what the dimensions of your TT II's are - dia/offset/backspacing etc. and what your tire sizes as pictured are for my info, as I would like to get a similar second set of wheels and tires soon and whether or not you have any rubbing or issues with them rubbing or hitting anything on tight turns or bumps when driving with your set up?

Also the steering wheel you have looks like a Grant or ?? other make. Is it a smaller diameter than the original OEM type or does it fit with the same dimensions as an original wheel?

Any info you care to share is much appreciated  - Randy

Hi Randy, I got the wheels at wheelsforless.com
Product ID: VN5155761
Product Name: Torq Thrust 2.1 15x7 5/4.75 -6mm offset 3'76 backspace.
http://www.wheelsforless.com/detail.aspx?ID=5711
The tires are BFG 225/60/15 from Discount Tire Direct.Com
I have no rubbing issues at all. My friend went with 235 and had some inner fender issues up front on his 69.

Yes the steering wheel is a grant. It seems to have the same dimensions as the stock one. I never had the stock one so I couldn't tell you for sure. But when I look at others cars it seems the same. Since the pic I changed the center cap. Grant makes one that looks more like a stock cap. Its red white and blue around a bow tie.

Not only do the correct mounts move it over to the right they also move it foward as a big block it about one inch foward. you may still need a longer driveshaft

No problem there. It only brought it out about a 1/2 inch. And there was plenty of drive shaft still shoved in there.
