Maintenance / Re: How do I find the best price for auto transport?
« on: May 18, 2011, 01:49:22 PM »
I have used a broker (twice now) with great results. Worry Free Transport (Diane)

http://www.worryfreetransport.com/contact.html

They have beat every price I got in both cases.

The first time, I believe it was Reliable that quoted me about $1,500 and Worry Free like $850. When the truck arrived to pick up the car, lo and behold, it was Reliable. I just used them last week and was very pleased.

Grainger also has it if you have one nearby.

The power window wiring harness for the drivers side door is the main harness and it is a royal PITA to replace but it is the right decision if you do not want to revisit this problem in the future.

I had the same problem with one of my pace cars when I bought it a few years ago and found all of my wires in the drivers side door jamb spliced together. While I was able to resplice them and get it to work, I decided to order a new wiring harness and fix it right.

There are tons of cars out there to choose from and they don't have to be numbers matching or documented for you to enjoy them. Of course, the price should reflect no docs or an NOM engine, but that shouldn't discourage you from buying these cars if it's what you like and what you can afford.

Yes, Kurt also mentioned that!

I discussed this tag with Kurt a couple of weeks ago and it is a fake. This car has been for sale for quite a while and when I was interested about 2 years ago, it was priced at $69,900.

General Discussion / Re: Repo delco moraine boosters.

I have used Steve twice now on my restorations and he does an outstanding job. I have seen the repro's and they are much duller in appearance compared to his work. I have not heard any complaints on their performance and they look fine on their own, but Steve's finish is superior.
I guess it depends on what your budget is and if you are restoring a driver or more of a show car.

Original boosters WERE dull in appearance. The gleaming bright gold finish now common on over-the-top show cars is classic over-restoration. Our business had many NOS boosters over the years and I never saw an original that looked like that. If that's what you want, fine. But it is not original.

Here's a 29 mile LS-6 Chevelle. This is how your restored booster should appear.

As SS396 was looking for information on the working condition of a repro booster, I don't think we helped him much. Instead, the discussion has turned to what's original looking and what people feel a restoration should be. He stated he that did not want to spend the big money so functionality seems important to him, not whether it looks original. Not every car owner wants the original look or is even willing or able to pay to get it, that is reality. He didn't even state he is doing a restoration, just whether the repro's are any good for use.

I agree that this type of discussion can lend a bad name to a particular car which is unfair to the seller. This is a restored car and therefore it will more than likely consist of many repro parts which as we all know, are not quite the same as originals. That is what is available unless you take 10 years of searching for NOS parts and pay ridiculous money for oil filters and weather stripping, etc. etc. Of course, when the day comes for you to sell your car, nobody wants to pay you for your NOS parts.

The car is what it is and when you restore a car, most people want to make it better than new. Better paint, nicer detail, and plated parts that resist rust rather than bare metal which is normally correct. Who wants to be a slave to their collection oiling up bare metal parts to stop your hobby/investment car from rusting.

That said, this car being a LA Z/28 should show proof of its heritage. Any high dollar car or claim to be numbers matching should back it up with stamp pictures and documentation to prove it.

The pad is obviously decked and restamped.

The vin by the oil filter looks restamped also.

I would think that the block you have would be worth about $3000 - $5000 depending on the condition to the present owner.

Wrong alternator bracket, fan shroud, and master cylinder. Not much of a survivor....
Maybe he posted the wrong pics.
