General Discussion / Re: curved neck 4 core radiator question
« on: November 21, 2022, 09:39:55 PM »
Thanks William,

That was a good read.  No doubt things can change during a production cycle, especially on this topic.

I went back and re-read all the info again on CRG and none of this is there as you described (non AC 396).  At a minimum the table for 69 is wrong (it can be 3 or 4 row) depending on an ordering option of something else (axle related) or when the car was made in the production cycle.  Unless I missed a footnote that is.

I bow in your direction :)

Thanks Joe and Ed,

I like this one statement that was in that last item from info on this topic from CRG:

eliminating the need for the assembly plant to stock a straight-neck 4-core in 69.

I think considering my car was getting late(r) in the normal production cycle (end of June), maybe by then they were just making L78s with the curved neck.   Good to hear its atleast not incorrect as Ed stated.

so why did they put curved necks in COPOs in the first place? Were they all built later in the year? Did they flow better (I doubt it)? Last questions from me for a while, I promise.

General Discussion / curved neck 4 core radiator question
« on: November 21, 2022, 05:55:02 PM »
I am now confused on the aspect of the radiator in my car vs one I just saw with 5k miles on it at MCACN.  Both cars are black (not related to the question) but that is why I looked at the car vs mine.  Both are L78 4:10 cars. One is a M22 and mine is a M21. I forgot all the rules were now on getting a 4 core, and now wonder if a curved neck was part of it.  The 5k mile care built second month has standard neck (considered an early car?), mine made 6C (or D) is curved and is quite patina'd.  would like to know are both correct? did the curve neck version radiator come out later?  I know COPO cars had them.  Just wondering if I got the correct radiator now. Original owner said it was never changed out.

Great to see a car survive like this. Next time you see it, as it likely will show up again at your local show look closely at the painted hockey stripe, it will have these little tick marks from the stencil ever 1-2"s, not easy to spot.  New stencils don't have a way to replicate that (I think).  Pretty sure its original paint with the red oxide primer wear through on tops of fenders, but the stripe will be the best way to confirm. Once you look closely at it you will figure it out. Thanks for posting! Always love the rare silver grill ;)

General Discussion / 68 z/28 engine
« on: May 03, 2022, 03:30:04 PM »
I don't know if appropriate so feel free to delete my post but I had thoughts of buying this engine to put in a 61 vette I have, but decided not to and thought maybe someone here can make use of it.

Broach marks looked correct to me but not a judge of the MO for an LA motor, or any motor for that matter.  That is for the buyer to figure out.  Could be great for someone with a real LA Z/28 not currently having a potentially correct motor atleast.

Just sent in for my July 68z. Definitely fun hitting that paypal button, wish it could be here in my Easter basket but I know that is too soon.

I do wonder if having the protecto-plate in hand before you get your results helps convince some that your protecto plate is not a fake. I can see fake protecto plates being made after getting these docs as you really don't know for sure where your car came from, unless you had a small shred of some paperwork on the car.

I just read the report on that car and its review of the rear end is puzzling to me on why someone would have ordered it to begin with. Maybe open rear ends were better than positraction in road racing is the only idea I have for why the original owner (or dealer specified) choice that was made. None the less its a nice car.  Props to the previous owner doing the work to locate and install a real MO engine.  That was likely not easy.

Try posting on lost muscle cars on facebook.  In my case the second owner was looking for a car I recently bought, and a friend spotted this and said some guy is looking for that car (only had 2 weeks).  I would have never known unless my friend did not spot it.  Maybe try that.  I see someone from BC is looking for a black 67 z/28.  So folks from Canada are posting there. good luck.

When I put in z/28 on the search for that site, my car was at the top as the most recent connection made.

General Discussion / Re: 68 z/28 wheel - spare (never out of trunk)

Hi, I will check for those locations when I can, likely not the glovebox, Interior is like brandnew (24K miles), not going to mess with it. Great there was value to posting the pics.

for what its worth I spoke to the original owner of my car tonight (mainly about other stuff on the car) and he too was baffled on why no weights on the wheel when he had the car. He did have it put on a machine and it turned out to be fine which surprised him too.
So it was out of the car all along, and likely that orange stuff could have been from the balance check, not sure. So there ya have it.  Not all wheels need weights.

I think I made a mistake in my judgement.  I can't picture a 67-68 looking good in Daytona yellow, so its got to be what you get used to. A 67-68 Z with black stripes is killer to me. Here is the car I was going to see that made me wonder if there is anything real to it.

I can grow to like the 69 in that color since that last picture posted.

Annnnnnnd...Now it's been out of the trunk.

Yep, it's been violated :)  Moved to never been mounted status.  Probably was that to begin with. Still confused why not balanced, just because its a spare it does not need weights?

I like BY on a 68 (there is one in California I was considering), just looks great, will go see it when I get out there in next months.  I just can not warm up to the 69 in this color. The 68 more streamlined body just wears it well. My wife would throw up all over that if I brought that home. Consider maybe taking a step back on why few were made. There is likely a reason.
But I am sure it will sell high as its rare.
