Restoration / Re: Exhaust Systems
« on: January 16, 2008, 07:30:53 PM »
I'm going to keep the headers on the car, so I'm going to choose an aftermarket system.  Other then the flowmaster, has anyone found a good system with an X pipe and factory looking tail pipes.  Just to be clear, I have read a lot of threads on this topic, but I haven't seen anything specific.

Originality / Re: 69 Z Question

I have a 69 Z28 Dover white with black stripes.  It has obviousley been repainted but the rocker panels were not painted black.  Is there a code or something that specifies it should be painted black?  This must be somthing I've overlooked in trying do research on my car.

Thanks for the advice, I'm still not sure what direction I'm going to go.  I plan to get a quote from Gardner, even though I'm not really looking for show standards.  My concern with Flowmaster is that I don't like boat sound that I've heard with them.  I prefer a crisp sound with not too much drone inside.  I'd still like to hear what you guys have used on the 69 Z28.

What do you guys recommend?  My 69 Z28 has duels with some unknown brand mufflers and tail pipes just behind the rear tires, which I don’t like.  I can't decide on duels with X-pipe or going into one muffler.  I plan to put the correct tail pipes either way. Some have recommended Flow Masters, but I’m not sure I like the way they sound. I want it to sound good not like boat.

Restoration / Re: 69 Z28 Power Booster & Master Cylinder Assy
« on: December 17, 2007, 01:53:11 AM »
I just bought what is supposed to be an original Delco rebuilt 309 on eBay.  I believe my booster is correct as I can see the 9204 behind the cheap gold spray paint.  I plan to send it to Mr. MacNeish.  Now any resource and the proportioning valve or what needed to restore?

I appreciate everybodys advice.  I'll remove the booster and make sure it's legit, then send to JM.  Still have the MC issue where guys are selling on eBay as original.  I'm trying to get the car correct as possible, but it will never be a ponts car becuase it does not have the correct VIN on the DZ motor.  I'm still open for suggestions.

Restoration / 69 Z28 Power Booster & Master Cylinder Assy

I need advice.  I believe I have the original booster (but someone painted it gold) and an odd ball master cylinder. I was considering purchasing a new reproduction system, but there are literally dozens on ebay.  Some claim to use original boosters and repo master cylinders, while others claim the master cylinder is original.  It would be easier for me to buy a completed assy rather then trying go through the headach of plating etc.  I'm sure there are threads on this, so if someone can give me advise or direct me to the link. Any help will be much appreciated.

Restoration / Re: Instrument panel question(s)
« on: December 01, 2007, 10:52:18 PM »
I have two real quick questions involving the restoration of my instrument panel.

1. I can’t seem to be able to get the front light knob off. Does it unscrew??
2. I can’t get the entire left “astro vent” mechanism to release. I can’t find the screws?

Any tip on actually taking the entire instrument panel display off so I can clean and restore it and putting it back on would be a huge help.

Thanks,

Nick p.

The back side of the left astro vent housing is a slip-fit with a foam seal into the Fisher Body duct attached to the plenum; it will pull straight out.
I am having the same problem with the entire cluster.  I believe I have removed every screw, the radio, the headlamp switch and still the inst cluster seems to be held in somewhere.  All I am trying to do is replace the Astro vent (driver's side) and it won't come free.  Someone Please HELP!
