Restoration / Re: replacement 302 block
« on: February 04, 2010, 03:58:13 AM »
Stamping the block with numbers which match the VIN, supposed engine and date codes of the car is making the numbers match, of course it is in theory but in reality it has achieved nothing.  It does not make it a "matching numbers" engine to the car. What we are talking about here is taking say an "ME" coded block and then after the machine work transforming it into an "MO" block. I don't see how that works?

I am under the impression that in Camaro judging circles and please someone step in and correct me if I am wrong here, that a car which no longer has it's original factory installed engine, but has a block which has the correct code, a date close to the build date of the car and also has the VIN of the other car along with it's original factory stampings in place, then that car is acceptable for judging. Naturally it would lose points for not having the original block. In a case like that neither the car or engine are misrepresented at all. It is for example a 68 Z28 that still has an original MO block, but not the one the factory installed. No the car would not be presented with it's "original" engine but it would not be a "re-stamp" either, I know which one I would rather have!  ;)

IMO, "Matching Numbers" is one word short, it should be "Original Matching Numbers"

The major swaps are always great places to find those elusive parts, but if you can buy one on ebay that could save you some leg work. Depends how much of a challenge you wish to make it.  8)

I guess the obvious reply is to look on ebay.
That is quite a hard call to find original parts like that. Do an ebay search and see what you can come up with, good luck!  ;)

Nothing wrong with using a good old fashioned wire brush!
I have just been through the same and it worked fine.  ;)

Looks like the same guy that was mentioned not long back on another forum. In particular his bumper bars were in question.?? They had GM part #'s with supposed GM stickers but were clearly not GM parts!  >:(

Well done to you Danny!!!!  :D :D

Gee I wish I was a mile from your house I would be around to get that Firebird....
The Firebirds are nice cars, I have had many over the years and that is a great find also.
Let us all know how you go and please ask your questions, make that car of yours right if it isn't already.

Cheers

I do not believe that a "documented" list exists. I am sure CRG would not publish anything we have sent in either. The info we send in should be confidential and is only as good as the sender it comes from.

-Mark.
Hey Indy69, I here what your saying, however I have more then one car I want to check. And I am wanting to check if they are even listed in this Database, not just where they fall in the build sequence. I DON'T want them added as of yet. Therefore I can't list the VIN's. Hopefully somebody can make this happen. I was going to print it all out the day I seen it, but figured it was easy to access....Thanx.......Danny

Danny I hear what you are saying as well, however I believe the information is for the CRG and their use only and not for public record. Also, how long do you think this site would last if they gave out privileged information? I would think not long at all.

If you have found a stash of cars that are for sale or whatever, then I suggest you find out if the owner/s of the cars have them listed here in the database or ask them to provide documentation to prove their worth or get all of the VIN's and cowl tag info. and present it here for discussion.

In these days of fake tags and rebirthing of ID's, new body shells etc.  it would be fairly easy to "make" collectable cars rise from the dead. JMO!

Crap, well I know I seen a nice long list of VIN's that someone wanted at, to look something up. He wanted to see where HIS car fell in the build sequence. I don't want personal info, just the VIN's of the cars that are in the database, that have survived. I am positive I seen it HERE. VIN"s are nothing, I can go to the biggest car show in the country and walk around and collect 500 off the dash plate's before lunch....right?
Could someone tell me what it is I seen? And possibly give an explaination......Thanx......Danny

Just a thought!
What if you posted your friends VIN and cowl tag info., maybe the guys here will let you know where that car lies in the build sequence?  ;)

Does anyone know the TRW or Moog part number for this bushing? Thanks.

From memory the 2 companies have the same part# B298.

Joe,
The Perfect Circle bushings are fine from my experience with them. Also, they are available from Moog and TRW if you need others to look at.
I do not know about the springs being supplied with the bushing already installed, I am sure someone here will have the answer for you..   ;)

Originality / Re: Dealer optioned 67 Camaro
« on: January 02, 2010, 08:12:08 AM »
 Dare I asK??

We all know what the car is now and I imagine that a lot of the members on this site are asking what is actually behind the initial posts of this car?
Are you buying the car, is it for sale and/or have you been trying to determine the vehicle's originality before purchasing etc?
We would assume that it is a matching numbers deal?
Nicely optioned car and one of many good cars to be imported into Australia in the the 60's.

Good luck with it!
 ;)
