Originality / Re: 8 track
« on: April 23, 2006, 12:46:57 AM »
When you ordered the 8 track with either the AM or AM/FM mono radios the U80 feature was included with the 8 track.  What most people don't realize is that the 8 track and the radios are two completely separate systems.  You can't run both of them at the same time.  there is a switch in the 8 track unit that kills power to the radio when a tape is inserted.  That same switch also connected and disonnected the right rear speaker (belonging to the 8 track) to the output of the U80 fader on the radio.  The mono radios then used the dash speaker and the right rear speaker just like if they had ordered the U80 by itself.

The AM/FM Multiplex radio shared all 4 speakers with the 8 track and all four speakers were switched back and forth by that switch in the 8 track.  The multiplex 8 track is a completely different part number than the base 8 track though, as it has an extras wiring harness on it that brings the output of the multiplex unit into the 8 track player.

Restoration / Re: 69 Z28 engine dates
« on: April 22, 2006, 11:19:16 AM »
If it's a February of 69 Z28 there will be an X33 or X77 on the cowl tag.  Doesn't get much simpler than that, (unless the tag is missing).

That's because the 8 track added 4 speakers to the car, but there is a connection within the 8 track harness that allows the use of the U80 rear fader on the mono radios.  It shares the right rear deck speaker with the radio.

8 tracks were available with any radio.  There was 4 different 8 track units used (in 69 anyway), the was two 2 knob units that mounted under the dash, and two 4 knob units  that mounted forward facing on the console.  If you had a console, you got the console mounted version, otherwise it was mounted below the glove box on the passenger side of the dash.  The AM (RPO U63) and AM/FM mono radios (RPO U69) used the dash mounted speaker only unless they were ordered with RPO U80 "Auxilliary Speaker" and then they had a second speaker in the rear pacakage tray and a dash mounted fader knob.  The 8 tracks used 4 speakers (2 front, 2 rear) which they shared with the AM/FM stereo radios (RPO U79).  The mono radios shared the right rear speaker with the 8 track (ie RPO U80 was included with RPOU57 when combined with RPO U63 or RPOU69) but otherwise the two systems are completely separate.

If you looking to buy an original setup, be prepared to cough up about 1000 bucks.  And don't buy a console mounted one without the armrest pad, as they aren't repro'ed and are very hard to find.

Only F70-14 was available, but you could get them in blackwall, redline, and a few white letter variaties.

Decoding/Numbers / Re: 69 Camaro Cowl Tag Question

When was it built (month and week), how many fuel lines underneath it, does it have front discs, 4 speed or automatic, if it's a 4 speed where is the speedometer cable hole in the firewall down near the fuse block, or at the front edge of the transmission tunnel above the accelerator linkage?

General Discussion / Re: cloning
« on: March 22, 2006, 03:41:19 AM »
The term cloning seems to be used way to much lately.  Adding Z28 emblems to a 6 cylinder car with a power glide transmission is not cloning, as it's not going to fool anyone (mostly anyone) into thinking the car really is a Z28.  Adding an option here or there, does not really fall under the definition of cloning.  The line seems to be crossed when a performance model is "cloned", calling a 307 base coupe, an SS for example.  Again slapping SS emblems on a car isn't going to fool a good portion of the people who know these cars.  Cloning really comes into play when an owner starts changing the trim tag, and restamping driveline components in an effort to enhance the price an otherwise lower value car will bring when it is sold.  Adding the RS option will bring more money at resale, but at least on a 67 the option is listed on the trim tag and pretty easy to verify.

General Discussion / Re: Low Fuel light
« on: March 22, 2006, 03:25:01 AM »
Yes, the auxilliary tach and console mounted gauge package RPO U17.  The low fuel light control module is mounted inside the console gauge housing and provides a ground to the low fuel light in the dash when fuel gets down to about 2 gallons.

Decoding/Numbers / Re: 1967 Camaro seat belt decoding help
« on: February 14, 2006, 11:39:30 AM »
Those are 69 belts.  The first numbers are the week the belts were assembled, the A is where they were assembled, and the last number is the calendar year they were assembled.

Yes, 67's could have shoulder harness's but they are a fairly rare option  Front shoulder belts in coupes weren't made mandatory by the government until 1/1/68.

Decoding/Numbers / Re: 67 Cowl Tag Opinion needed

I'm saying repro, there are a couple of things that look "off" but then I don't study the 67 tags like I do the 69's.  Some of the 67 guys would have to give it a good look.  If your considering buying it, verify everything, don't take the sellers word for anything.

Means exactly that.  Could have been a non standard paint color, or in the case of a Z28 it could mean to delete the rally stripes.  The broadcast sheet may tell you which it was.

Cut and paste it into your address bar on your browser.  Don't put HTTP:// or www. infront of it, just the text as written and nothing else.  Works fine for me that way.

Heres the video link.  R&T jumped the gun and GM probably shut them down, but its to late as other people have already copied it and now it resides elsewhere on the web;

Car looks better in the video than in the picture.

Restoration / Re: CONSOLE GAUGE LOW FUEL MODULE
« on: January 06, 2006, 01:35:48 AM »
No bulb goes into the module in the console on a Camaro.  The module lights up the FUEL lamp in the dash by providing a path to ground through the yellow lead wire when the fuel level gets down to 2 or 3 gallons.
