General Discussion / Re: Dash paint color
« on: July 23, 2006, 03:13:22 AM »
Top of dash is 0 gloss black Ditzler code DIA-9317, front of the dash was semi gloss black Ditzler code DIA-9266.  The top of the dash usually has a suede additive in it that gave it kind of a slightly textured look.  The vast majority of the painted interior parts were painted with the semi gloss paint.  Things like rear window defogger grilles, speaker grilles, console compartment door, and the corner escuthion (trim pieces) on the rear window were about the only other flat black items.

On a black interior car (standard 712, 713 or Deluxe 714 or 715) everything on the interior is black except for the chrome astro vent bezels and balls, and the clear handles on window cranks.  Exterior color played no part in the colors of interior components.

Its a 69 model year Saginaw 4 speed built on September 24th 1968 (could also be 1969 depending on what the first number of the VIN stamp on the transmission is 5 or 7).  The R indicates its a Saginaw, would be a P if it was a Muncie.

Originality / Re: stripe question
« on: July 01, 2006, 01:30:40 PM »
You could not order stripe colors, you got the stripe color that GM determined went with the cars color.  The only possibly modification to the standard color came about if you ordered certain color vinyl tops.  For example a hugger orange Z28 would normally have had white stripes, unless you ordered a black vinyl top and then you got black stripes.  The only choice you had with stripes was to delete them, in wich case your trim tag would have dashes on it inplace of a paint color to indicate it was a special paint instruction car.

Decoding/Numbers / Re: Drive Train Date Codes vs. Body build date.
« on: June 14, 2006, 01:04:57 AM »
Transmission is restamped.  Muncie didn't start using the A,B, and C suffixes until mid October of 68, The transmission assembly date as written above is from June 26th 1967 P 8 H26A.  Muncie used the last number of the model year, so a 69 should start  with a P9.   You won't find a real muncie with a date before P9R21 with a suffix code on it.  With a definate transmission restamp and a motor cast 11 months before the car was built you can bet it's been restamped as well.

What part of the air cleaner is hitting the hood?  Is it sitting all the way down on the carb.  Do you have tower type raditor hose clamps?  Many a person has found out that the air cleaner housing is actually hitting the radiator clamp on the thermostat housing and it is not sitting all the way down on the carb body.

General Discussion / Re: Fuel guage goes past full
« on: June 13, 2006, 09:25:30 PM »
Nope, I'm backwards, high resistance (open circuit) means the gauge will read above full.  Sender produces 90 ohms full, 0 ohms empty.  But if your getting 8 v at the connector in the trunk, then the wire isn't open circuited between the gauge and that connector, it has to be open circuited between the connector and the sender, or the sender and ground.  Are you reading 0 ohms (short) or infinite resistance (open) when you check from the connector to the sender?  If your reading 0 ohms the guage should read empty.

When you disconnect the gauge, stick a wire into the connectro and then ground the other end.  If the gauge goes to empty then the gauge and all the wiring between the guage and the connector is fine.  Check the ground wire on the sender (it doesn't ground to the tank).  Just about dead center at the front edge of the tank there is a black wire that comes from the sender that is attached to the sheetmetal under the trunk with a screw.  That is the sender ground wire, make sure its there before you think about pulling the tank, especially if you have had work done in that area recently, like a muffler replacement, or brakeline work.

8 volts is fine, if the guage reads past full then the sender wire is grounded somewhere, if you disconnect it in the trunk and the gauge goes to empty then the gauge is fine, and the ground is between the connector in the trunk and the sender.

The 302 air cleaner spacer ring is about 2" high, the 350 ring is about 4" high, so if you have a 2" high ring and the hood won't close, you have no option except to cut the ring down to the proper height (or remove it).  If you got a 4" high ring then ou have the wrong one.

My 69 Pacecar has an 0429 built 3.07 12 bolt non posi rear axle.  The car rolled off the assembly line sometime just before midnight on 4/30/69.

Part number 9 is just a strip of adhesive foam strip about 1/2" wide, it fits inside the upper part of the ductwork and sticks to the outside of the lower part.

General Discussion / Re: Walnut or Rosewood??
« on: May 17, 2006, 12:39:03 AM »
Not so fast.  Early 69s with RPO N34 have been observed with Walnut woodgrain steering wheels.  I beleive the transition is sometime in the early October of 68 time frame.  But the majority of 69s are equipped with rosewood wheels.
