Decoding/Numbers / Head casting numbers?
« on: August 19, 2007, 05:48:47 AM »
I have a 69 with a 350 which is not original to the car. So far I know the block casting number 3932388 could have been in a late production 69 Camaro. The intake manifold is 346250 GM 4 which is for a 76-83 305/ 350 next is the heads, where do I find the head casting numbers, under the valve covers?

Maintenance / Which plugs and wires?
« on: July 03, 2007, 02:17:19 PM »
I just finished changing my 69 350 from a points type distributor to a Mallory Unilite HEI distributor and coil. Which plugs gapped at what gap works the best and which wires should I use? The plugs were A/C R44S if that helps. Thanks

Maintenance / Need help with Mallory Unilite HEI distributor install.
« on: June 28, 2007, 04:53:55 AM »
I bought a Mallory Unilite HEI distributor to replace the points distributor in my 69 350. The first warning in the installation instructions says "Before installing the Unilite distributor make sure that your vehicle is equipped with an ignition ballast resistor (or loom resistance wire) in the wire between the ignition switch and the coil (+) terminal. Check a service manual for your vehicle to locate the ignition ballast resistor ( or loom resistance wire)." I looked in my 1969 Chevrolet Chasis Service Manual and could not find a reference to the resistor anywhere, I probably missed it. Can anybody tell me if the 69's had such a beast and how do i locate it if it does? Thanks

Maintenance / Polishing window glass?
« on: May 26, 2007, 05:14:07 PM »
My 69 has several areas on the glass where it looks like they were hit with a buffer and it left scratches in the glass which just makes me crazy when I see it. Is there anyway to polish the scratches out of the glass. TIA

Maintenance / HEI Distributor.
« on: May 15, 2007, 02:46:04 PM »
My 69 still has the points type distributor and I would like to change it over to an HEI distributor. Do I have to buy a complete HEI distributor or can I just install the HEI cap and rotor? If I have to change the complete distributor assembly who makes a drop in HEI unit, where can I get one and how much do they run? I'm still new to the 1st gen and I appreciate all of your suggestions and help, thanks fellas.

Maintenance / Correct filter numbers?
« on: April 25, 2007, 12:05:15 AM »
First off I should say if there is a better forum for me to ask these questions please let me know, thanks. I just picked up my 69 Camaro last Friday night so the first thing I do is change the oil, oil filter and air filter. The oil filter that came off of it apears to be a AC Delco PF25, what was the correct oil filter part number? My car has a working cowl hood and i couldn't find a correctly sized air filter to fit it. I wound up using a Fram CA136 in it, what is the proper part number for the air filter? Thanks guys, I know I have alot of basic questions but I am new to the 1st gens.

Maintenance / Won't start when the starter gets hot.
« on: April 24, 2007, 04:50:37 PM »
My 69 will not start after I've driven it and the engine is at running temperature. I have to wait 5 to 10 minutes until it cools down then it will start. My buddy says it's the starter heat soaking, does anybody else's do this and what is the fix? Thanks

Decoding/Numbers / Hello newbie here.
« on: April 24, 2007, 02:17:09 AM »
Hello this is my first post on this board. I just picked up this 69 Camaro this past weekend. I have a couple of questions on the cowl tag information. So far I've figured out that my car is a 69 Norwood car, it's an X-11 code 53-50 paint code with standard buckets. What does the "TR" infront of the 715 indicate and what does the "09C" below that mean? Thanks
