Were Flint and Tonawanda engine stamps the same font and size? I have a friendly argument with a young fellow and he says they both had totally differant stamping sets. Thank for your ideas

Originality / 1968 Z28 timing chain cover
« on: August 28, 2008, 01:50:10 AM »
Anyone have a good pic of what a 68 timing cover looks like with the timing tab welded on. I am trying to get a buddies 68 z running and I am thinking he has a 69 timing cover on the car hence the trouble setting the timimg. My 68 Z is stoired away and I can not quite remember which cover he needs. He does have the correct balancer with the timing mark inline with the keyway.

Originality / 1968 z28 heads
« on: August 22, 2008, 07:41:57 PM »
I just looked at a 1968 z28 that I have known about since about 1976. My question is the heads are 3917291 and they are dated I 12 7 while the block is A 8 8  while the car is a 0 2 B build date. The owner now is the 2nd guy to own the car and he contends this is the way he bought the car from his cousin. Do the head dates seem a long way off or could the I be a L  which it could be but sure looks like a I to my eyes. Thanks

Do you guys use the factory alignment specs when running Bias-ply tires. I wondered if anyone has played with the caster and camber and toe-in to make these cars more enjoyable on bias-ply tires. thanks Paul

Restoration / Bumblebee Stripe placement
« on: May 31, 2008, 10:12:20 AM »
i am helping a friend tape up his 1968 camaro with 250 engine emblems for the bumble bee stripe. The problem is that when I follow the factory specs. on were it should be as far as the distances on the header panel the 250 emblems do not totally land within the large part of the stripe. The emblems seem to be offset and to the rear portion of the stripe. I have taped up and painted many of these stripes and never have I ever seen the emblem placement turn out this way. Could the 259 signs be drilled wrong from the factory and better yet what can be done to correct it. We have been told by the original owner that these emblems have never been moved or replaced since the car was new. Thanks for any feedback.

General Discussion / cowl plenum breather
« on: April 06, 2008, 09:35:26 PM »
Has anyone heard or seen the reproduction cowl plenums from NKR products. Are they close as far as fit and finish to the originals. I just bought a 68Z that has the cut out for the cowl plenum and before I start the bodywork and fix this area I would like to know if they are a decent breather. I just cannot afford an original plenum breather
