General Discussion / Re: Homepage & Feature Car pics

Pics for February/March have been posted.

The 67 and 68 pics are repeats, from 2004.

No pics of drivetrain stamps or docs.

Sellers can say whatever they want...

Pics are crappy, maybe on purpose.

Personally, I wouldn’t give the car another look and just move on.

Not sure there is a way to tell on a small block, its usually best to remove the oil pan and look.

There are some external clues on big blocks for 2 bolt mains versus 4 bolt mains.

Would they have used M code for all experimental blocks or just four bolt main?

"Research by the Saginaw Metal Casting Operations of GM Powertrain Division has found that these "M" codes are not date codes, but actually a foundry code used to indentify parts that were made to evaluate a casting process change."

There is no reason to think that it was only for four bolt main blocks.

That’s the car. November of 69 build. X11 was most likely a mistake on the tag - but the car was built as a Z - as intended.

Oh and on the M coded blocks, they used M because L was December - the last month of the year. I have had a few M coded blocks over the years and might still have one. Not sure.

Restoration / Re: 1967 RS/SS 396 - L35 M40 project

I tried to buy two other 1967 L35 coupes, both 4 speed cars, in the past 6 months. But neither one worked out. I guess as they say “third time’s a charm”.

Initially I was not thrilled with this car and was going to pass.  The low production numbers for big block Camaros in 1967 made me decide this was going to be worth the time and effort to restore.

There were only 4,003 L35 cars in 1967 - and only 1,453 cars with L35 and M40 in 1967.

Just thought I would list all of what I know this car had originally at this point, from the tag.

E - Tinted all glass
2ZG - TH400 3-speed automatic transmission (M40) with console (D55)
3SL - Special Interior (Z21) and Rally Sport Package (Z22)
4N - 396/325 hp engine (L35)

Other options -
J52 - Brakes, front disc, rear drum (includes rally wheels (ZJ7) in 67)
N40 - Power Steering

I am still trying to get in contact with the guy that owned the car from 1980 to 2001.

Also working on getting a jig built to put the car on while the frame rails are replaced.  Trunk pan and gas tank were replaced 20 years ago and are still in great shape.

Yes we all use an incorrect word from time to time. No big deal.

Wow, thanks Scott.  Good to know.

Just did a very preliminary look, but the front lines seemed ok.

Congrats on the new family project, nice project indeed.
Isn't the alt suppose to be on drvr side?
Nice MT valve covers.

Yep. :)

Supposed to have a 1970 LS6 top end on it.

I should have the brackets to put alternator back where it belongs.
