Decoding/Numbers / Re: Mismatched Cowl Vin to motor and gearbox

I do not think there will be any GM of Australia records on this car.  Was it sold new in Australia?

Send me your matching exact date stamp examples Austin along with casting dates of each.  If you want.  If the stampings are NOT on the same DATE and the same YEAR, you are comparing apples to oranges. Same shift means nothing, unless is the exact same 8 hour shift.

The stamping you have posted all seem to be genuine, but I am going to let Kurt comment.

We only keep first gen cars in our main database.

Some of us collect data on other cars too.

But as Darrell posted, for a non 67 to 69 Camaro, the best things to do are Google the VIN and find a site that deals with that specific family and generation of cars.

Originality / Re: Eaton Posi Date

And I just chatted with a person that deals with rear end internals every day for his business.

With the new Eaton style posi units being sold today, the internals and cases are a lot stronger than the originals.  Prices on the new ones are typically the same or less than an old rebuilt unit.  Just FYI.

Not that I am aware of - here is the current list.

If there is not one currently in the works (I will check), is this something you would be willing to work with us on?  We would need to include 67 and 68 as well.

Topics usually need to have months or even years of data collection before a report can be written.

I do not remember seeing this thread before. WOW there are some great pics and I enjoyed learning more about the Monaro. :)

The only one I have easy access to here is a 3 series stamped F 2 J

I had a 4 series a while back that was just stamped 8

Honestly unless you have a COPO car, who cares about the date? It’s not going to be judged or checked unless it needs to be verified as a 4 series with correct COPO internals, which are different than regular posi internals. Now having correctly dated gears (and housing) IS important in my mind. Just my 2 cents.

It’s ok to be mindful of the numbers, just don’t fall over the edge to OCD.  :)

I am not sure they all were stamped with a date.

I have a question William.  Since it may possibly be related to the required tach option you posted.

When the required tach option went into affect (I'm guessing Feb onward??) would this also be the same time frame they changed the tach to the 6-8 configuration??  Or was that phased in a little later?

Let us know how things turn out.

I have a 1971 Dated List 4815 - 1967 Z28 and L78 service replacement - all original, but it has the same issue.

Restoration / Re: Worn clutch linkage questions

I would try welding first. Fixing the area that is worn will be pretty easy. On the other area, just be more careful so you don’t have to drill much out.

Good used should not be too hard to find though.

Or Eric may be able to just repair your original part.

I don't think so.

Check out this site if you need JL8 parts.  I have not done business with them so I can not give you any feedback.

I agree. Drive the car first and see how it does. Might not need the booster.
