Correct. That was answered in the second post.

Hey Chris, there is information out there.

Generally years and years of experience can’t just be given out in one fell swoop - so other people have instant knowledge.

Ask specific questions and you will probably get answers.  This is a great site with a lot of helpful people. Nobody knows everything, so each of us ask and answer questions. Has to be both ways.

So you traded that part I was interested in?

I have seen that type of nut used on engine mounts before - but can NOT say for sure if it was on a 69 Camaro.

For what it is worth, reproduction parts sold by this company use the same type.

Use a pump to get the oil out. Put the hose in as much toward the bottom of the trans as you can. Pump it out. Wait a while until it drains a bit more, then pump it out again.

Honestly I think that will be enough. Then refill with regular gear oil.

Sorry to hear of your memory issues. It gradually happens to all of us as we get older.

General Discussion / Re: XXB suffix code
« on: May 28, 2018, 07:33:19 AM »
My suspicion is that if the engine in a 1967 Camaro SS 350 had a warranty issue prior to September 1967, it received an unstamped large journal short block. Remember in the 1967 model year, the 350 was only available in the Camaro.

My suspicion is that it was not used for the 350.

In 1967, the 327 and 350 had different part numbers - both for short block engine assemblies and “fitted blocks”.  A fitted block in generally a short block - minus the rods and crankshaft.

The CE coding did not start until September of 1967. Prior to that, only complete engine assemblies revived a stamped code on the pad. Short blocks prior to September 1967 had blank pads.

Now you have me curious and probably won’t sleep much until I find an answer.  :)

I don’t think you are going to get more of an answer to your question about the XXB code. I can not find any mention of it being used for 350 warranty engines. But I will continue to do some checking.

I understand your situation. But it’s not the original block for the car. You could try to find a 1968 CE coded block with the correct 350 journal size.

What is the crank journal size of the block you have now?

The 327 was a good engine. The 350 can be built to rev as good as the 327. It will then out produce the 327 for torque and horsepower. Spending dollar for dollar on a 327 and a 350, the 350 will give you more bang for your buck.

Minor issue but the Camaro SS 350 was rated at 295 hp in 67 (and 68).

As others have mentioned, use conventional oil ONLY!

Drain out what you have and get some regular gear oil.  I get mine at NAPA. Does not have to be a big name high dollar brand.  It is $6.99 per quart around here.   PART # NOL 75210

Put in conventional gear oil and your problems will most likely go away.

Actually since you need to redo the seats, going with red deluxe might look REALLY good. Especially if you go with a black top.  Pics of 67 red deluxe interior at this link.

Nice!

Looks like a base 327 4 speed car.  But if the original engine is gone, build what you want.

Definitely try to keep the original colors. That’s a great combo.

What is the axle code?

Since its a non numbers matching car and not even a big block car, personally I would not try to clone it exactly toward an original SS 396 car. But that is just me. Drive it and enjoy it. Change the things you want to make it look better in your eyes, but don't try to make it out for something it isn't.  Just my opinion.

If you have one of those very small inspection cameras with a built in light, you MIGHT be able to see where it is. If it’s not all chewed up, you MIGHT be able to get it back out the same hole. But you might also just be wasting your time.
