If anyone has an original please post the date stamp on the carrier, axle housing assembly date and date of the vehicle assembly.  Thanks.

I may start a thread in Research topics.

I think it is OK.  I have a pic of it from March of 2015.

Typically things like distributors that are date stamped use the following (I is not used for month).
A for January
B for February
C for March
D for April
E for May
F for June
G for July
H for August
J for September
K for October
L for November
M for December

For the year
A - 1
B - 2
C - 3
D - 4
E - 5
F - 6
G - 7
H - 8
J - 9
K - 0

We have not had any pics submitted recently for use and Steve has not been sending me any pics. Steve had been sending either me - previously Kurt - pics each month that he had collected. Because of this, I decided a while back to recycle previously used pics.  The 67 and 68 pics were originally used in March of 2004.

The only information I have on the 67 is that it is an SS which at the time was owned by Curtis Sikyta.

The only information I have on the 68 is that it is a Z28 which at the time was owned by Vlad Potiyevsky.

The quality of the pics on main page is not all that good, but it is all I had for the small version. If you click on the pic, it will go to a higher resolution, which references a different file.

Here is the information about Homepage and Feature Car pics.

I MAY have an answer on the stamped code for the late 60s.  I have no confirmation on this, just speculation.

The stamped assembly date code can either be on the edge of the ring gear flange, or on the end (see pic below of one I have from a Chevelle).  The stamped format of the digits is month, day, year.  Month and year are letters with just the last digit of the year.  I need to figure out which letter was not used for sure, but it is most likely the I, which is not used for other stamped dates (such as on distributors).

The one attached is H24H - which COULD be August 24, 1968.

For the year 1969, the year stamp would be a J (the letter). I am fairly certain that J in the year position corresponds to a 9.

In the pic I posted, it has a normal casting date F 14 7 which is June 14, 1967.  The casting date on some units may only have the Julian date (day of the year 1 to 365).  I do not know why the casting date and assembly date would be so far apart, it seems unusual.

$20K is “short money”?  Not for a base car.

Marina blue and some nice options.  Not a big deal if its not an SS if the price is right.

It MIGHT be and I do mean MIGHT be the neutral safety switch.  I can not find my color coded diagram right now, but can you post a pic of the wire?

You have changed it twice already. I would say keep what you have in there for a few MONTHS and then maybe change again.

Changing to standard clutch adjustment may help a bit too. What clutch are you running?

UPDATE... Put the car on the lift and sucked out the synthetic trans fluid. Put in Sta-Lube/CRC 85/90 Multi-Purpose API/GL4 Gear Oil. Took the car for a 5 mile ride. Put the car back up and drained that out and filled again. Took a 10 mile ride down Hwy 101. Came back and sucked that oil out and filled with PennGrade 80/90 API GL4 Classic, Multi-Purpose Gear Oil. Shifts MUCH better and hoping it will get better with a little mileage and time. I will change it out again in 2 or 3 months. Still takes a little effort to get in to first gear at a stop. But not NEAR as much as before. I have become sort of an expert. Danny

Seriously, you don’t need the expensive gear oil. In fact, the cheap stuff I mentioned is actually what I have found to work BEST.

You might have read too much into that. From reading that, I didn’t assume John was involved.

Here is just one thread that explains some of the casting marks.
