Several people are working on putting together original driveshaft information for 67-69 Camaros. Items of most interest at this point are below.

If you have an original driveshaft and would be willing to post information about your car, it would be very much appreciated. Here is what to include...

Year of car
Norwood or Los Angeles car
Month and week of vehicle assembly
Engine
Transmission
Driveshaft length (measured center of u joint to center of u joint)
Type of attachment to pinion yoke. There are two types: U bolts and the strap and bolts method.
Code stamped on front of passenger side axle tube.
Paint stripes and a picture (if possible)
Position of the u-joint flanges on each end. Some cars were "in-line" and others were "clocked" about 30 degrees off from each other

Post in this thread if you want. If you would rather not post, but still contribute, send an email to me please. Thanks.

Bryon

*** Modified 3/18/2014 to remove casting number.  Most don't have it and it is a forging number on the yoke.  ***

I have your M22 case.  Assembly date is P9A24C.  I know that is quite a difference in date from transmission assembly to vehicle assembly but stamp appears genuine.

Decoding/Numbers / Numbers on 69 Muncie 4 speed linkage
« on: April 18, 2010, 05:29:00 PM »
Is there any way to correctly identify 1969 Camaro Muncie 4 speed shifter rods for a big block?  Do any of them have numbers stamped on them?  I bought about 8 rods from a guy and he said he used to have a correct 69 big block shifter, but sold it years ago without the linkage.  He thought some of the linkage he sold me was correct for that shifter, but I don't know how to identify them.

Were the big block shifter rods thicker than the ones used for the small block or the same size?

Thanks in advance.

Restoration / I need rocker panel moldings
« on: March 30, 2010, 07:10:42 PM »
Ok, I need to put new rocker panel moldings on my car.  The originals were missing in action when I got the car.

What company makes the best reproductions?  I am looking to spend around $100 or less.

Here is a link to what I am talking about.

Or does anyone know of some good originals for sale?

Thanks in advance.

Decoding/Numbers / 1969 Transmission date and VIN
« on: February 14, 2010, 02:50:41 PM »
Let me know what you think of this one.  I have asked a couple of experts already.  M22 assembled in late January but VIN of the car stamped on it is from early August.

Does anyone else have a big time gap from when your M22 was assembled compared to when it was installed in the car?  Thanks.

OK, I know the codes for M20, M21, M22 (A, B, C) were not supposed to start until around late October 1968, at least on Chevy cars. But could Pontiac and Olds have started sooner?

I have a Muncie that I think is from an early 1968 Firebird.  The date code is P8B07c with a partial VIN of 28L100919.  I found pictures of two other transmissions with a similar small "c" stamp after the date code.  All stampings look very simillar.  I wonder if someone is trying to fool people that these are M22s or what is going on?  These are all from different parts of the US.  The trans I have was in an IMCA modified stock car, converted to a 2 speed with M20 gears in it.  So it was not fooling anyone there. I have gears to put it back to being a 4 speed M20.  I have never seen any of these small "c" marks on a Chevy transmission.  Does anybody have any ideas?

I have attached a picture.  This is from Muncie #2.  I have pictures of the two others but can't post now due to size limits.  I can send them to anyone interested that would like to comment.

Muncie 1 - the trans I have - date code P8B07c with a partial VIN of 28L100919
Muncie 2 - an Olds 442 trans? - date code P8C06c with partial VIN of 38Z117242
Muncie 3 - a Pontiac trans (GTO ?) - date code is P8A19c with partial VIN of 28P244597

Any help you can provide to explain this will be appreciated.
