General Discussion / Street Drag Racing back in 70's
« on: May 16, 2007, 11:43:20 AM »

There is almost nothing to equal to the excitement of the hole shot, popping the clutch at 3,000 rpm, flooring the gas pedal, feathering the pedal to keep from spinning the tires to much, power shifting to 2nd at 6,500 rpm hoping not to miss the gear, shifting to 3rd with about 750 rpm drop and in 4th gear reaching the finish line at about 6,500 rpm, of course with a 488 gear, I believe I needed a 513 gear.
All that in a few short seconds.

Burgandy/white stripes 69Z28

I love my car

General Discussion / Re: What was the top Camaro? SS or Z/28

my vote goes to the Z28

In 1979 sometimes after work I would raced my 69z with the starting line being by the shop. We would draw a crowd. A close friend of mine had a 71  455 transam. we ran pretty close together, he would win some and I would win some. My little 302 was unbelievable.

I bought my Z in 1978. It is a #67 car, burgandy with white stripes. I'm restoring it now and I'm going back original as much as possible.

I'm doing a nut and bolt restoration on my Z/28 and now I'm at the point of painting.
Is soda blasting the paint off to bare metal best.

General Discussion / Re: Subframe to body, alignment
« on: April 10, 2007, 01:31:11 AM »
There are two alignment holes under there.  Use two punches that fit the holes and you should have it.
There is about an inch between the upper and lower alignment holes. This
would alow the alignment pin not to be plumb.

I'm concerned about how much tolorance I have on the alignment of the subframe to the body.
I want to make sure the front cap assembles correctly. The alignment keeps changing after I torque the bolts.

General Discussion / Re: installing windshields
« on: April 04, 2007, 11:49:50 AM »
How do you guys install windshields (and back glasses for that matter) so that they achieve a stock height and appearance?  I know that urethane is the best for sealing but I hear that it is difficult to get the height correct.  Butyl is  a pain but comes in a 3/8" bead plus no one seems to make/cary a pinch weld primer thta is compatible with butyl.

What did the factory use?
