Maintenance / Master Cylinder Secondary Piston
« on: October 16, 2013, 01:44:26 PM »
Does anyone know of a U.S. made master cylinder kit that contains the secondary piston and who sells it? Also, the GM part number for the secondary piston alone? It is for my 1968 manual brakes drum/drum Delco Moraine master cylinder with a 1" bore. Thanks, Joe.

Originality / Under-hood insulation
« on: September 20, 2013, 01:43:35 PM »
Did all 1968 Camaros have under-hood insulation, regardless of engine or dealer destination? My 1968 Sport Coupe has the L6 engine and was bought originally in Florida. When I bought it in 1988 it didn't have any hood insulation. I'm wondering if the factory didn't install the insulation or if the previous owner had it removed. Thanks for any information. Joe.

6-cylinder Camaros / 1968 Fuel Line From Fuel Pump To Carburetor
« on: May 04, 2013, 01:05:28 PM »
Can someone post or refer me to a clear picture of the fuel line that goes from the fuel pump to the carburetor on a 1968 L6. I'm particularly interested in the right side of the engine where the line is routed around the distributor. Thanks in advance, Joe.

Maintenance / Removing valve seats from the brake master cylinder
« on: October 01, 2012, 03:20:59 PM »
To remove the old valve seats from the brake master cylinder, the service manual, page 5-19, says to drill the valve seat with a 13/64" drill bit and tap 1/4 X 20. This size drill and tap seems awfully close to the diameter of the valve seat. Is this an error in the instructions or am I worrying for nothing. I'd appreciate comments from those who have done this job. Thanks, Joe.

Maintenance / Freeing frozen piston in master cylinder
« on: September 07, 2012, 05:03:40 PM »
Any suggestions on how to free a piston in my master cylinder. It is the piston at the bottom of the bore. I've soaked it with WD40, blasted it with compressed air, tried hooking it with a piece of wire, all to no avail. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks, Joe.

Originality / Temperature Switch Wire Retainer Part Number
« on: July 07, 2012, 11:54:10 PM »
Can any one tell me the GM part number for the temperature sending switch plastic wire retainer, as pictured, for a 1968 6 cylinder engine? I checked my AIM but couldn't find it. Thanks, Joe.

Maintenance / Rear Spring Front Bushing
« on: January 20, 2012, 01:35:12 PM »
Has anyone used either the Moog SB298 or ACDelco 45G15308 rear spring front bushings? How do they compare to original GM quality-wise? Are they made in the U.S. or Canada or off-shore? Thanks, Joe.

Maintenance / NOS Fuel Pump
« on: January 20, 2012, 01:26:02 PM »
Is there any risk in installing and running a 25-30 year old NOS fuel pump? I'm thinking about the internal parts such as the diaphragm hardening and cracking. Anything else to consider? Thanks, Joe.

6-cylinder Camaros / 1968 Distributor Cam Luricator Part Number
« on: December 10, 2011, 07:58:29 PM »
Does any one have the part number for the 1968 L6 distributor cam lubricator. The GM parts book shows 1852935 for both L6s and V8s which can't be right since the L6 lubricator is donut shaped while the V8 wick is straight. Any help would be appreciated. Joe.

Originality / 68 Smog Pump Part Number
« on: March 12, 2011, 07:36:06 PM »
I need help in determining the latest part number used for a smog pump for my 68 L6 engine. The A.I.M. quotes 7802609, the parts book dated 8-72 quotes 7806686 and the attached parts book page dated 4-76 is unclear. Do the last 3 lines refer to the 75 Vega, Monza part number 7817807 or is the correct part number missing?
Thanks in advance. Joe.

General Discussion / Undated Engine Components
« on: March 06, 2011, 12:04:44 PM »
I've come across a number of smog pumps and alternators for 1968 cars that are undated. This is the case for used, installed components as well as NOS never installed ones. What would be the explanation for this and was this something particular to 1968 or other years as well? Thanks for any help you can give. Joe.

« on: January 18, 2011, 01:30:37 PM »
I'm looking for the part number for the double-groove pulley that goes on alternator 1100813. The AIM doesn't supply the number. Thanks, Joe.

General Discussion / 1968 A.I.M.
« on: October 27, 2010, 08:33:29 PM »
Before purchasing an A.I.M. for my 1968 coupe, I'd like to know if there is more than one publisher and if so which one is best from a quality and readability point of view.
I understand that some pages may be light and difficult to read. I'm particularly interested in the A.I.R. (smog) system for my L6 engine, so can anyone with a 1968 A.I.M. tell me if that section is of good quality? Thank you. Joe.

Originality / Torque Drive and A.I.R. (smog)
« on: September 11, 2010, 12:56:30 PM »
Just out of curiosity, for 68 and 69, were torque drive equiped cars considered automatics or manuals to determine whether they should have an A.I.R. (smog) system installed? Thanks, Joe.

Maintenance / A.I.R. Pump Hoses
« on: August 07, 2010, 12:54:58 PM »
What kind of hose should I use between the A.I.R. pump and the manifold pipe, and where could I find some? The emissions manual states that the hoses are made of a special high temperature material and that no other type hose should be used. I've seen kits of these hoses but they are for 8 cylinder engines, I have an L6 so I'll need to find a source and buy a length of hose. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, Joe.
