Open headers are huge, and he's down near sea level, that makes a big difference.  It might do it.

Hmmm.  Interesting question.  I don't think you'll be quite that quick based on what you're saying.  Here's an article from Super Chevy that has a 427 Camaro in it:

Would love to see you run it!

Hope this helps and welcome to the site!

Expect to see more graffiti. A while back one of the mags had an article on the "Rosetta stone of Camaros" this car had inspection marks on everything, and the owner claims they are all exact reproductions of the original marks. Kind of implies that if you don't have these marks - your Camaro is not as good as his. The restoration was so perfect they even had the ford "caution fan" sticker on the fan shroud. Perception unfortunately can bend reality.

Tom

I saw that one, amazing!  The caution fan sticker tends to make you question the whole restoration (and restorer).

Originality / Re: adding power brakes to 69 Camaro

It also has front disc brakes with rear drum brakes and I am wanting to add power brakes.

Well thanks Kurt!  I just looked at that opening statement and jumped right in 'cause I had never seen a manual disc brake car.  Zero production is rare indeed!

Hmmm.  Looked it up, 67,231 cars had J52 front disc, rear drum and with J50 power assist in 69.  82,890 with J50 power assist, so that means there were 15,541 cars with power drums.  So 92,758 cars had manual brakes but I don't see a way to figure out how many had manual disc.

Is this a factory manual disc car?  I've never seen one myself, isn't that kind of rare?

I was hoping sdkar would give me the part number on the rebuilt master cylinder?  I need the new piston.

Restoration / Re: Restoring Vigilite

My 69 Corvette had the fiber optics standard, I'll be they are similar if not exactly the same.

Factory screw-in studs and guide plates on heads with 2.02's started in 1970.

Thanks John.  I always screw this up (pun intended) because my 69 Z had screw in studs and plates.  I know now that heads were either modified or weren't the original heads.

25
Didn't the 69 Z/28 heads had guide plates that were attached with screw in studs?

Never mind, just checked my MacNeish book, 69 Z/28 heads were press in without guides.

26
All factory SBC heads were pressed-in studs prior to 1970.

Didn't the 69 Z/28 heads had guide plates that were attached with screw in studs?

Pretty sure all 2.02's came with screw in studs for high performance applications too.

I think the first 2.02s with screw in studs started in 1969.  I know some of the early 2.02's were press in, they might have all been.

Edit:  Hmmm, after thinking about it, seems like some of the earlier 2.02s were screw in but didn't have the milled flat for the rocker stud.  The studs were screwed in, but you had to use two rocker arm nuts on the stud to turn them in and out.

Well, I guess that pretty well demonstrates how much I know about screw in rocker studs, so I guess I'll stop embarrassing myself now and let someone who really knows straighten this all out.

Thanks,
Hank Kimble
(you older guys will get the reference)

I was told the same thing.  You know what I did...?  I bought a rebuilt master cylinder for $20 and gutted it.  The rebuild kit only comes with the bushings and springs.  Gutting a rebuild master cylinder got me everything...including new pistons.  I then returned the empty master cylinder for my core deposit.  It worked fine for me.

That's a good idea, what was the part number and where did you get it?

29
Make sure you get a pic of the end of the axle tubes! ;D

Very interesting.  I would really like to see the rear axle and discs!
