Hey Maroman - what sort of details would you like to know?  I'd be happy to share anything of interest.  Ken did do a fantastic job on my car - a real labor of love!  Paul

Thanks very much Shelton - I'd suggest that you speak with Ken Lucas (my restorer) who did all of the work on my car.  I beleive his username is SS375HP if you want to send him a private message.  Thanks - and good luck!  Paul

Initially, I was speaking with another gentleman behind the counter.  But, when he gave me the news, he did get Bob - and we talked for quite a while.  He was a real nice guy and a great help.

I cast one more vote for Lucas Restorations.  Ken is simply great to work with, and knows his stuff.  I've seen several of the cars he's worked on (including mine...in progress) and they are all excellent examples of very professional work.  Can't go wrong with Ken.  Ship the car (I shipped mine from California...), that is - if he'll take on your project.  Paul

Yes Ron, I did indeed come up with a correct fan and fan clutch about 2 years ago.  But, thanks for the offer of a refarral.  The hardest thing I have "left" to find is a NOS driver side door weatherstrip.  That - I need!  See you next year in Carlisle.  Paul

Hi Ron!

Yes indeed, I did see your car and actually talked to you a bit while your car was being judged.  I like the way you kept the roll bar form "race days" in tact.

Hope to see you again next year at Carlisle, when my car should be ready!

Paul

According to the legends judges at the Camaro Nationals, the correct dipstick has a brown tip.  Fortunately, I was able to pick one up cheap from a vendor at Carlisle.

So on the parts list, I'm down to needing:  1) NOS left door weatherstripping, 2) original front and rear door panels for a standard, black interior, 3) 2 rear seat deluxe seat belts (black), 4) a correct jack (and related components), and 5) a correct AM/FM antenna.  That's it.  A pretty short list.  I'm lucky...

Thanks for asking.

Well - the one and only Flambeau Red 1967 Z/28 is one step closer to being brought back to life...  COLOR!  At last!  Paul

Well, yesterday I talked to Bob Wingate who ordered and sold my car originally back in 1967.  Unfortunately, Bob did not have any "specific" recollection of the stripe color on my car.  He did seem to think that it came with stripes.  But, he could not say for certain what color they may have been.  His best recollection (from one day 42 years ago), was that it had black stripes.  He said he would look through his documentation and pictures and see if he could find anything specific on my car's appearance way back in the day.  He did remember ordering my car, and some other high performance cars in the orange paint color.  I do know that the car that was produced immedialty after mine was an SS 350 or 396 in the same color.  I do have some pictures of that car - it was in pretty rough shape when it was sold on ebay a while back.

Thanks for the research ideas and opinions on what I should do next.

I was on the east coast last week and saw the car in person on 5/13/09 - its looking great.  Color will go on in the next 2 - 3 weeks.  That's pretty exciting.  I'll post a couple of pictures when that's done.

Paul

The cowl tag is the soul of the car.  Leave it alone.

Well, "Team Lucas" coundn't say definitively if the car did or did not have stripes from the factory.  But - everyone agreed that there was NO EVIDENCE of stripes found on the car.  No evidence does not mean that stripes were not there at one time.  I don't want to speak for Jerry MacNeish - but he was emphatic that as a Z/28 - it had to have had stripes from the factory.  He told me about some Z's that were ordered "stripe delete" in 1967, but when they showed up at the dealer, the stripes were there.  I suppose that as a special order paint car - things COULD have been different for this car - and the "normal" 67 Z/28's have to have stripes "rule" may not have applied.  I've come to a place where I THINK I can do whatever I want to the car (no stripes, black or white stripes) and "technically" be correct.  I started this thread just to get some other opinions on what others might do in my place.  Thanks for any advice/opinions.  Paul
