Jerry always said NEVER use synthetic in the Muncie.  I use it in my 302 engine but I add the ZDDP plus to it.  I don't know about the rear and would like to know if synthetic is ok in that as well.  BTW it's a posi if that makes a difference.

I can't find one picture with those locks in the 69 AIM.  I'm not real familiar with 69's or their AIM though, just can't find it in there.

I have one of those TR bolts from a DZ and it had a hole too.  Like bac said safety wired for racing in the day.

If you look at my car on the CRG 68 page, an early picture of the car shows one just like it.  I can't tell if it has a lock on it, but remember that some of these early pictures could have been near the oil crisis of '73.  Gas was hard to come by and "entrepreneurs" found that stealing gas from other cars was easier so a lot of people had to get locking gas caps or when people were siphoning they tossed the cap and many were lost.

Did you pull the connector off at the motor?  I've had those plastic retainers crack in the middle and the wires touch each other and they won't change speeds at all.  Don't know if that could do what you're talking about, but worth a look.  Almost everything on these cars can go wrong if a ground isn't good.

 J12-YC Champion is what Jerry said to use years ago.  I don't know if things have changed but that's what I use.

Now you're gong to make me have to go see if I can get a pic of mine.  I don't even remember what my number was, but it is one of those in the time frame where 67 parts were used.
