Restoration / Re: Wire routing
« on: March 15, 2007, 12:09:01 AM »
I don't remember where I've seen all the pics but I had seen some with the routing like that pic of the white Camaro and the AIM only showed the behind the fender picture, that's why I asked I guess.  I can only assume because I have original fenders and these holes don't look drilled that they where there to hold something.  I would "guess" since I haven't yet seen just the hose being held by these two straps that it's an: either the harness and hose go in them or they both go behind the fender?  I wonder if anyone knows if it is just one of those "some were done this way and some were done that way" or is there a reason for the different routing?  Mine is a non RS Z and I have few options, AM radio, console w/guages, tach, some trim and that's about it, if that makes any difference.  Also, on that white car, is that master cylinder what came in a camaro without Z28?  Mine had that on it and I could tell someone had replaced the mc and I just wondered what that kind is for?  Thanks much!

It does.  Mine is an LA build and that would explain it.  I have seen pictures where it is in those straps and the harness, straps and fender are original.  I guess I just wondered if it was the harness and hose or just hose.  For now I think I'll put both there.  I can always change it.  Thanks again.

John Z, since we're looking at your trunk: Do you know if the 68 or 69 z's had a jute backing on the trunk divider or was it just the hardboard?  I can see the jute in your package tray but can't see the trunk divider that well.

Thanks for posting that John.  I couldn't have said it any better.

I am suppose to be getting a pair of heads later this month where a seat fell out and did a lot of damage to the valve and combustion chamber.  Another reason why not to install them.

Jerry

I think I'll have you do mine.  I already have a Dz motor that's now worth about $10.00!

Thanks again Jerry.  Did the 68 Z's use the two piece cable?

I've heard of problems with these too and was worried.  So what did I do? I got thier dist, coil and wires. ( I'm a little hard-headed ) I haven't had a problem and did hear that you have to use their plug wires with these or the module can burn out.

On page 241 of the 68 AIM it lists an adapter for the 4-speed trans with posi.  What is that thing?  Does anyone have this and can you buy it anywhere?  It also shows the one-piece speedo cable.  Which cars used the two-piece cable  and did they used this adapter?  I'm totally confused. ???

When I bought my 68Z it had some things wrong on it.  I bought a lot of books including AIM.  My questions are:  On the driver's side inner fender, there are two plastic straps positioned in vertical holes in the fender about a foot apart.  It had the washer hose being held by these.  In the AIM I dont' see these or the hose and the front light harness shows to be routed between the inner and outer fender.  I have seen some pics of engine bays with the wiring harness and washer hose held to inner fender with these straps.  Which is correct?  PS Mine is not an RS.

Thanks both of you.  Jerry I need to check with you more before I do things.  I just had the box done here locally and didn't know you did carbs til after I'd done mine already.  You did my booster.  Gave me goose bumps when I opened the box.  As I said on another post, it helps to read everything through before I do it.

FYI,

Original 2.02 heads have an unshrouded polished area around the intake valve in the combustion chamber.  If that is not there, this could mean they were opened up at a local machine shop.  Most shops who open 1.94s to 202s do not have the proper eq to finish the job right.

Jerry

Jerry,

Do you do this service and/or have this equipment?

Were the steering boxes on the Camaros natural cast color or the blue-grey that Rick's sells and says they came with?

That's a big thank-you.  I didn't want another 302 going to the scrap yard.

I've had trouble sometimes and it was the pop up blocker.

Ouch, I guess I should have known better than to try to cut my words short and not be precise. I meant to say the 388 block that had the DZ stamp and the 010 that had the CE stamp. I was just trying to ask if the differences in these two blocks, as far as the distributor hole, was a change to the casting numbers, just the 010 casting or did it vary from year to year?  Or has nobody seen what I was talking about? I was concerned that my old dist. wouldn't work somehow or oiling may be affected.
I have a picture on the TC site of the block stamping for the 388, it was a Flint and is now scrap. John or Kurt may be able to post it here as I sent it to Kurt.
