Restoration / 403 Bellhousing color?
« on: June 30, 2007, 05:39:12 AM »
I read that the finish for the bellhousing should be Chevy orange.  I've never seen one this way on an original car.  Is it supposed to be orange or natural aluminum?  I don't mean over spray but solid orange.  Thanks.

General Discussion / Not much LOS stuff on orphans

Is that because Norwood made so many more Camaros? I keep looking, but most of the items have an N by them.  Not many Ls.

Decoding/Numbers / Muncie vin #'s
« on: March 24, 2007, 06:37:50 PM »
Is there a "rule" to how the vin #'s were stamped on the 68 Muncie for the Z28?  JM's book shows one that has a 1 before the vin, I guess to denote Chevrolet?  Like 18nxxxxx and Pontiac 28nxxxxx.  I talked to a guy rebuilding my trans and he said he hardly ever sees the 1 before the vin #.  Is this 1 just on Norwood, Los, 68 Z's, certain production runs or what?  Or is it just supposed to be there and sometimes it doesn't get put on?

Restoration / Front wiring harness routing
« on: March 22, 2007, 11:06:01 PM »
I didn't get a definative answer so I will try again.  Does anyone know where and or why some 68 non RS Z28's had the front wiring harness routed between the inner and outer fender and some seem to have it connected to the inner fender with two vertical straps?  Is it based on options or what, and does the washer hose go with the harness wherever it goes?  I have a very light optioned Z: AM radio, console guages, no power steering.  When I bought it, the washer hose was routed to the inner fender with two vertical straps attached to it.

Originality / D80 speedo cable
« on: March 11, 2007, 12:45:54 AM »
On page 241 of the 68 AIM it lists an adapter for the 4-speed trans with posi.  What is that thing?  Does anyone have this and can you buy it anywhere?  It also shows the one-piece speedo cable.  Which cars used the two-piece cable  and did they used this adapter?  I'm totally confused. ???

Restoration / Wire routing
« on: March 10, 2007, 10:35:42 PM »
When I bought my 68Z it had some things wrong on it.  I bought a lot of books including AIM.  My questions are:  On the driver's side inner fender, there are two plastic straps positioned in vertical holes in the fender about a foot apart.  It had the washer hose being held by these.  In the AIM I dont' see these or the hose and the front light harness shows to be routed between the inner and outer fender.  I have seen some pics of engine bays with the wiring harness and washer hose held to inner fender with these straps.  Which is correct?  PS Mine is not an RS.

Were the steering boxes on the Camaros natural cast color or the blue-grey that Rick's sells and says they came with?

General Discussion / Differences in CE and DZ block
« on: March 06, 2007, 12:06:55 AM »
I was just looking at my CE block for my 68 Z28 and a DZ that was in it.  They look very similar except for where the distributor hole is in the lifter galley.  The CE just has a hole which is close to the floor of the lifter galley.  The DZ has a mound with a hole in the top and a small one on the side almost even with the top where the intake goes.  Does anyone know why this is or what this does?  Both blocks are 302 and 4 bolt mains.  Any help?  Thanks.
