General Discussion / Re: 4 Leaf Springs worth

Well, Reproductions with correct  appearance sell about 500$ now, Given a set of Factory installed 4 leafs are not dated and subject to use on 68/69 model year and folks seeking no compromises with the use of nice quality appearing Repops, I would suspect you are in the ball park at 500$ used. Finding past real world sales will be difficult in my opinion. I would imagine Condition would drive the pricing in a large way. They could require servicing and repairs, Hidden Broken Leafs, Sagging leaf's, Broken retention straps, Rust, Worn slider inserts, Mangled End eyes and so on. These would require serving & repairs.  For a Car for sale depending on the "whole" of the Cars being sold the Remainer of the vehicle originally it could drive even the Choice to go pursuing Factory springs.
Does the Ends justify the Means.

My biggest concern would be the use of 200 dollar Generic 4 leaf's on any 68/69 Z.

Just thoughts as asked for.

TROUBLESHOOTING

Starting System (Vehicle in a safe condition)

A) Test the starter motor and solenoid: Connect a jumper from the Hot battery post of the solenoid to the "S" post of the solenoid.

B) ^^ as above Determine whether the ignition override switch (i.e. Starting safety switch)  are functioning correctly, Disconnect and jumper the connector if needed.

C) Check the ignition switch "START" position: Connect a 12 volt test lamp or voltmeter between the starter (S) post on the solenoid and ground, turn key (Switch) to start and verify voltage presence at the solenoid post.

These should be a few good diagnosis step to start (no pun intended) with.

General Discussion / Re: 1969 Original Battery Cables
« on: November 13, 2022, 05:07:25 PM »
I have this exact same problem.
I have a few Orig 68/69 Cables,  yet the Spring Ring Clamp ends or the #10 feeders are damaged. When I reached out to Lectic Limited for inquiry they WILL NOT service any original components due to Liability and any negative effect to sales of their restoration line products.

Now if you GM Orig Factory Cable that  just has a damaged Round Ring Spade terminal you can source replacements via Digi-Key or Newark electronics, sizing the Barrel to the proper gage and the Ring hole to the proper size for the stud on the solenoid. Crimp, Solder, Insulate.

A lot of cars judged are not negatively affected by using Factory Fit style replacements ? I think ?

My Electrical Apprentice Instructor reminded us.
P=I2R
Power Equals Amps Squared times Resistance.

We all know the function of that wire is to voltage drop (IR) by way of resistance some of the available voltage to the primary winding and the points to preserve point life.
The cost is Heat that is dissipated by the length of resistance wire.

I have not found a vendor source that is selling raw lengths of GM applicable resistance wire & the Harness vendors plainly state they do not sell "Parts" i.e. various connectors, terminals and wire. So Harvesting a Donor harness to obtain a used acceptable chunk of wire to repair your existing harness might be in order.

This is Where I obtain terminals, connectors and tooling for Harness repairs.
