Restoration / Re: Markings on Bolts and how to do a "batch" clean
« on: May 29, 2008, 07:54:02 PM »
Good afternoon Phil!!! Could I avail myself of a copy of your "sheet" on engine bolts for 67 - 69 Camaros???  I would appreciate big time your offer...  Going through catalogues sometimes shows bolt markings and how the bolts are configured as to how large the shoulders are etc etc...
Again, I would love a copy!!!  Ted

Restoration / Markings on Bolts and how to do a "batch" clean

Is there a listing of bolts and attending  markings that are on original bolts somewhere out there??? I found a couple of buckets of ole bolts from yesteryear and guess what,  I want to figure where these son a mah guns came from re. 67 - 69 Camaros and put'em on a spreadsheet to know exactly what I've collected...  What would be a way of cleaning all these suckers at once... If I brought them to a shop, would the acid bath clean these sufficiently, or, is there another way? On a lot of bolts I see TRW on the heads, why??  Might seem like a moot question, but, I kinda like this stuff....

Thanks!!!  T.

Good evening!!!  Suffix code HD was also good on '69 Chevelles as I have one namely 350ci
suffix coded TO 111 HD 19130@##@ with block 3956618 believe this carb came on the engine with 3932441 heads and the Cdn #3916313 iintake and carb 7029114  281 DD 81 if my eyes do me right...  Suffix code HD was also a Camaro code...  If you'd like I'll take a set of shots of this 114 carb demain matin (tomorrow morning)... I realize the pic(s) I sent were not of the best quality...  Let me know and I'll take more...   Ted

Good morning!!!  After the distributor was assembled, was the unit put into a "holding fixture" of some sort to stamp it exactly on the same horizontal line, using exactly the same numbers punch  as the 7 digit part number.  If so, to my eye, the 4 doesn't look the same.  On the part number 4, the punch seems to have 2 distinct noticeable dots on the triangle of the 4 versus the date 4 having 1...  On the lower right side of my screen, I have an icon with a magnifying glass. I changed the level to read 400 and you can see the punch is not the same or a different pressure was applied...    On the 000 distributor, the O stamp is not the same as the dated 0.. How can this be??? In the 'ole days, they must've had people who did nothing else but assemble distribs.   Maybe other people down the line had listings saying we need 20 distribs for 20 Camaros dated 9 C 24 and punched the castings as such..  Maybe the questions begs, how did the assembly line process work???   Ted

When they stamped the casting number of the distributor,  did they also stamp the date code or did a load of  distribs. stamped #488  arrive and when required, were  date stamped...

Thanks John!!!  I guess discussion was re. how different the valve events' specs were from the "Doc" vis a vis what I had gleaned from the Chevrolet Power Manual...  If yah have a chance on the event specs.  If not I appreciate the response... Knew you were out there!!!  Ted

Sorry gennamen, I know it is not a Camaro part but in fact Vette.  I guess by way of explanation it goes like this... I was on the Camaros.net board and the 3863151 number came up... I  was digging in my 4th Edition Chev Power manual at the time and came up with valve event numbers...
Apparently these are in contradiction to a Doc Cobine's research paper off a Vette site... I was just wondering what valve event numbers were / are correct...  I know Mr.JohnZ might be somewhere about, so to speak...   T..

Anyone have the definitive specs on this 3863151 cam ex Hi-Po 327 RPO L-79???
Looking for the opening and closing point intake and exhaust valve events..  I have a Chevrolet Power Manual in front of me presently, i.e.  4th Edition Section 2 page 17 and as stated for intakes: 40 degrees  BTC and 100 degrees After Bottom  Center...
Exhaust valve specs are opening 92 degrees BBC opening point and closing point is 48 degrees ATC...
Is this correct or ?????   Thanks!!!  T.

Originality / Re: adding power brakes to 69 Camaro
« on: May 07, 2008, 07:53:04 PM »
Hi John!!!  I hear you, but 850 to 900rpms  is going to bring up the vaccum to 10hg...
I increase the idle to 1100rpms and then the brakes are a mite better but not really trustworthy...  I must admit I went the wrong way in putting a "stocker" cheater cam in there with .390 and .410 lifts but at 244 @ 050 on both sides... Last thing I want to do is pull the pan off as I did not use a 2-piece  timing cover and the engine does not leak a bit.. You know what is gonna happen when I pry the pan down in order to get the timing cover off...  My combo is further off as I went to 882 heads from the mid 70's and with the stock 4 valve relief pistons, I am lucky to be at 8>1cr.
I have humps that need a bit of work and will throw them on with a RPM Edelbrock instead of the single plane Weiand Excellerator on there now...  Just a thinkin' out loud and maybe Rhoads along with 1.94 camels and the RPM intake and I might be okay.  If that doesn't work I have no choice except maybe non power brakes or last but not least pull the cam out and put a correct one in her...   Kinda frustrating but, no one to blame except.....   Ted

If I wanted to go the other way and take the power brake system from my car as I made a mistake in putting a cam with way tooo much duration in the engine and as a consequence, my vaccum is 'bout 7 - 8 lbs at 750 rpms...  Don't wanna bring up the rpms as I love the idle, but a mite dangerous and after a couple of stabs at the "binders" there is not much braking and it is a mite dangerous to say the least...  What do I do to change from Power brakes over to manual braking system???  T.

Good info Mr JohnZ... Had these for sooo many years and basically never knew what I had or why and what they were used on....   Merci!!!  Ted

I will go down and check the numbers again since I am re-doing my inventory listings..
Blown 67 RS is correct in that the casting number is in fact 3991492 with casting date of K30 1... 64cc Straight plugs - press-in studs - accessory holes - and in the middle of the head there is a GM 56 - not sure what that means...  They originally came with 2.02s
The other head is 3973370 also 64cc with casting date of D23 0 straight plugs - press-ins - accessory bolt holes... Did a Google on these two numbers and apparently they were both over-the-counter heads with the straight plug configuration..  3370s originally came with 1.94s...
Spacings between the valves on the 2 heads are similar and are not close to touching..
Believe both to be 1.94s and not 2.02s...
Have corrected my listing according to show 3991492 instead of 3861492
Thanks again!!!   Ted

How old are these "O" Rocker arms and were they in fact specific to a certain engine or car model???  I've had them for 10 years and the person I bought them from must've had them for maybe another 10 years B 4 me....  In the olden golden days, what did we in fact consider a "high lift" cam????  Anything over .450 and were they used in "solid lifter" cams only???
