Restoration / Markings on Bolts and how to do a "batch" clean
« on: May 28, 2008, 07:54:28 PM »
Is there a listing of bolts and attending  markings that are on original bolts somewhere out there??? I found a couple of buckets of ole bolts from yesteryear and guess what,  I want to figure where these son a mah guns came from re. 67 - 69 Camaros and put'em on a spreadsheet to know exactly what I've collected...  What would be a way of cleaning all these suckers at once... If I brought them to a shop, would the acid bath clean these sufficiently, or, is there another way? On a lot of bolts I see TRW on the heads, why??  Might seem like a moot question, but, I kinda like this stuff....

Thanks!!!  T.

Small block rocker arms with the "O" on them... I have heard that these are better than the more common "V" type...   Why???  I have maybe 15 of these O arms and cannot see any difference..
Maybe it is my vision, eh???   Ted

General Discussion / 1.94 or 2.02 over the counter heads is there a???
« on: April 30, 2008, 11:23:52 AM »
I have a non-matching set of over the counter hump heads numbered #3861492 dated K30 1 and 3973370 dated D23 0... Did these automatically come with 1.94s or 2.02s???  Is there a quick way to tell just by looking at them without measuring? How much distance is between the intake valve and exhaust valve of a 1.94 head vs distance between 2.02 intake valve and the exh. valve??? Both heads are press-in studs and I don't see any "factory grind relieving" in the combustion chambers.. Accessory bolt holes are already there...
Thanks!!!

Originality / Radio / 8 Track 01BPBT1

Any idea if this unit came from Camaro / Chevelle???   Looks like everything is there with original wiring harness and speakers...  Paid 5 bucks for it, but, I don't know what it is from, or, if it even works....   Thanks!!!!   T.

Decoding/Numbers / How are Q-Jets judged ???
« on: March 06, 2008, 04:09:49 PM »
Are Q-Jets judged to be correct for a certain car/engine combo by the vertical numbers either 7 or 5 or 4 alongwith the plant codes  and Julian dates located on the driver's side of the main body only???   When Rochester /Carter originally built the carbs, was there a certain baseplate  generic to a specific application or could they haved used a baseplate for many applicatioons??
I am looking carefully over the outside and there are raised numerals in circles on the carb base. There are also serial numbers when I turn over the top of the carb...

Do the judges just look for a correct numbered and Julian date carb or do they really get into it re. hangers / metering rods / etc etc...  Reason I am asking this is, that I have Q-Jets from the 60's and 2 of them are seized.  Really don't want to screw up the throttle bores/ blades by forcing them. What do the name carb re-builders do in this situation???  I imagine they could apply a base from another carb to the "good-numbered" unit...

I am not trying to deceive, otherwise I would not ask this question on a public forum. Thanks!!
