Decoding/Numbers / Forged crank 3815822 is there...
« on: October 22, 2008, 02:07:20 PM »
Going through my cranks (not wife and mother-in-law) types but, the forged steel  units.  I came across 2 of the above 3815822 and I wonder, is there a mark or coding on these shafts that would define it or them for 302 usage???
Thanks!  Ted

Good afternoon John!!!  On another Board they were a talkin' about the above and you sent a copy that I had saved, but,  I done "dooed it again"..  It has gone from my favourite files.  Ain't gonna butter you up, but, it was a real nice clean concise way of hooking up...
Merci   JeanZ!!!

Decoding/Numbers / 010 block has been refaced - how can I tell
« on: September 01, 2008, 12:37:46 PM »
Good morning!!!  Came across a 3970010 4 bolt main block that has been re-faced and in doing so has erased the original suffix coding and in its place is now hand punched  "302ci" by a machine shop or whomever???  On the rear of the block beside the 3970010 is a K 2 GM punch.  Lotsa paint back here and lighting was kinda marginal...  Beneath timing cover are punched  010 and 5F9 codes ..
Where else on this block can I look (peer) to find out if this an 010 1969 Z/28 block??? Thanks!! T.

Originality / 621 bellhousing is there a quick way to check....
« on: July 31, 2008, 07:03:39 PM »
Have a 621 bellhousing and everything looks great incl. the overspray from back of block but, and ain't it my luck, there appears to be a surface crack mebbee 1 to 1.5 inches  in length near one of the bolt holes... Do I magnaflux the beast or will a simple water spraying test suffice??  I know the water can not simulate the torque that must go on in the various shift points, but, any opines?
Thanks!!!   Ted

Originality / SBC rocker arms with "O" and V markings
« on: July 31, 2008, 06:52:06 PM »
Going through my stuff and I happened upon 16 rocker arms with the "O", and,  in the same box, I found 15 rockers of an olive hue with a larger than normal  "V" with a larger than normal  horizontal bar than is usually found on rocker arms of 67 - 69 vintage.  Also found another with a "V" lying straight down on one of its points instead of the usual vertical "V".  I know what the "O" types are, and, so far I have found 32 of them, but, what are the other ones e.g. the larger and thicker V and the the thicker than normal bar units...  Is there someone who re-conditions these  "O" rocker arms?

Decoding/Numbers / engine oil dipstick 14033079 what application???
« on: July 27, 2008, 09:19:08 PM »
Engine oil dipstick 14033079 tried Google on this number and doesn't come up with any meaningful info..  Stamped on the stick it says Engine Oil SF only and beside the number there is a   V  stamped..  Believe it is a BBC stick, but, from what application???  Must be a super-ceded part number...  Thanks!!!  T.

Originality / GM BBC Oil pan did it ever come with.....
« on: July 21, 2008, 12:02:35 AM »
Going through my stuff and I came across a BBC rear drain bolt type and the pan has a trap door type thingy with baffles... I have a couple of race pans with the same things... Did this come from GM as manufactured this way, or, was Bubba hard at work???  Real neat job of cutting away materiel on the pan bottom..  Can send 4 pics, but,  I need an e-mail addy as my computer is a dynosaur... Bought a new Dell Inspiron with Windows Vista replete with  Hi-speed,  but, that is another tale of friggin' horror dealing with customer service people way way overseas..  Blasted 'puter has been outta service since Feb. and after spending close to a G note, they refuse to send a tech rep to fix the beastie...   T.

Good morning gennamen!!!  I have a supposed to be Junior Stock  engine and can't figure out the suffix coding...
Engine block 3703524  with suffix code V 1237 and then a I or a 1.. What the heck is this as it has no oil filter provision on the block.  Pretty sure it is from Flint 'cause of the V.  Is this a 265 Vette engine??  I never really gave this much thought as the engine looks great - no ring ridge and was told at purchase it was a neat  Junior Stock drag engine with not very many runs on her... The 3837064 heads were from a later engine...  Crank is numbered 3735236 and supposedly has forged slugs.  Block has a casting date of L20 4...

Originality / Axle shafts for 12 bolt or 8.5 10 bolt???
« on: July 10, 2008, 11:13:26 AM »
Is there a quick easy way to tell a 12 bolt shaft from a 10 8.5  bolt unit???  Spline count / thickness ??  Came across 2 sets yesterday and thus the question..  Thanks!!!  Ted

Going through my various fans and I'd like a pic pls. and a number of the correct fan for a 396 / 325HP engine suffix coded  MY.  When I pulled the engine apart, I must've put the fan into a non-descript container and herein lies the problem...  5 blade or 7 blade unit and is there a  clutch on this unit...   Also need a photo of the alternator brackets for the 68 engine... Thanks gennamen!!!

Originality / Cast Iron Q-Jet intakes ex 1st and 2nd Gennies
« on: June 17, 2008, 12:08:16 PM »
Is there are way of telling whether a like-numbered intake is for a Vette / Camaro /reg. psgr ?
Getting my listings up to date and when I Google a casting number it shows either Vette / Camaro or Chev psgr.  I am not trying to dupe anyone into buying as "Vette" or I would not ask on a public board... Did the cast iron intakes come from Flint or were they all from Tonawanda???  Thanks!!!   T.

Restoration / Intake 3932472 problem or not???
« on: June 07, 2008, 11:38:02 AM »
I turned the above intake over, and, where the hold down bolt would go is a hole. Don't know if someone in their infinite wisdom has put a toooo long bolt in there and the intake now has this hole.  I have a pic if it'll clarify the question... Can the intake be run as is or should the hole be welded up???  Thanks!   Ted
