Mild Modifications / Re: Nice fitting headers on a Z28
« on: January 13, 2016, 07:33:28 PM »
Since we are talking headers, my brother is recreating his old day 2 68 427 car. He is determined to use M/T Super Scavengers but none to be found. He bought a new set of Hooker non tuned headers new and cut off the collectors. Using a borrowed unit, he has a metal guru building the collector boxes now. He plans to tuned the headers in the collectors like the old ones did. I will let every know how it works out. Or has anyone tried it before.

I agree. With anything rare people don,t usually have a real one to compare with. My 66 GTO has several parts that are not exactly correct but how often do you see two 66 tripower cars at the same place unless at a Pontiac only show. The 64,65, and 66 intakes were all different but I see cars where the owner does not even know.

Everything I have read says the Hemis were sent to Smokey for testing. I also read an article that said the prototype 70 Camaro was found behind his shop.

I called his business a couple years ago to rush some books for Christmas and HE actually was the one that answered the phone. Super guy.

Comp grinds the LS6 in Hydraulic, I have one sounds good idles 750 to 800
DUI will curve you an HEI to match your cam, comp, weight, and gear. I have not tried it but it sounds good.
Power feelings will come from your gears. My is a dog with 3.36. I think the cam cannot get to its range quick enough but it was a dog with the stock cam also.

If you ever read Muscle Car Confessions about the factory supplying test cars you get the feeling that most were just not pulled from some dealers lot. So what is to verify? Like testing a 389 GTO that later was said to be a 428.
