It does not mention any docs that I see. Probably part of Muscle Car Docs lost vins. I agree that the color just does not really provide any wow factor. Your number might be more in line.

Could be the clutch fork, disc, pressure plate, maybe release bearing. It has to come apart either way.

After in person examination I might would go more than 40 but it odd for that money they do not show or advertise tags. Should be an X car and does have the center fuel gauge.

I do recall the difficulty reading it in the car. When I brought the car to NC from out of state, NC at that time required photos of three vin locations one of which could be the title. At DMV Raleigh NC they had a lift. Even on the lift we could read it but the exhaust was so close their camera would not focus. I was told to remove the exhaust and bring it back.

There is a Camaro pilot car website. Very informative about pilot cars and preproduction Camaros.

The car is nice. I would like to have it. But the price does not reflect what it really is.

To me a "claim" of matching numbers is just a claim without some backup. My brother and I have had maybe 50 or 60 muscle cars since the 60,s and I could count on one hand the ones that I would say that it had born with equipment. GM trim tags in general tell colors and interior type and with mid 69 X codes body trim but little else. X77 and X33 just tell the factory to install Z28 trim and X22 and X66 just say big block SS trim. Mid year corvette trim tags tell body color, interior color, and convertible top color but little else. I have spent many hours tracking previous owners just to find out what the car had when they had it. I am buying my son a Nissan today to drive with what appears to have low mileage. The muscle car person in me caused me to go through the glove box to find Jiffy Lube papers that showed the mileage back for years that told me the mileage is correct. I enjoy the "hunt", scraping 40 years of crud off a 12 bolt to find a 3.73 posi with correct dates or talking to a previous owner who says yes that is a CX 400 turbo that he had to have the converter rebuilt for because he could not find one. I do this as a hobby. I do not think I would be successful doing it as a business because I am to honest.

You might try Danny,s Transmisions in Nc 336 317 2270. He mainly does 4 speeds but rebuilds shifter also.

853
You might have a 68 shifter. They mount with U bolts and come through different. My Z with no console, the shifter hit the repaired tunnel when I installed the 69 shifter.

For what it is worth I found what the mice left of my 77 Trans Am firebirds under the rear seat. Mostly confetti but enough to know what it was. The little rascals carcass was there also.

I checked with guy who does mid year corvette teak wheels about repairing the crack in my rosewood wheel. He said he could do it with real rosewood but did not re do plastic ones. Could be his work. I saw a NOS rosewood in the box at a show and the repops just do not match, so I just ride with the crack.
