Maintenance / Re: 68 Muncie talishaft
« on: November 29, 2017, 01:53:46 PM »
When I got my 69 it had a 68 hurst shifter. During resto they installed a tunnel repair part for the shifter hole and must have used the 68 shifter to align it. Using the 69 mount plate I could not engage 2nd or 4th gear because the shifter hit the tunnel metal. Since mine is a non console car I was able to shave some metal off the tunnel and make it work. Mine did not take 2 inches and factory boot covered it all (with the mounting holes relocated). Not factory correct but it did work.

From the picture your engine looks to good to pull.

Could be that LOS tags are easier to build a fake with. Since they had a multi model line the numbers are harder to check. Plus in 69 no X codes so you fake whatever.

If you need THAT case just find 2 ears, bolt it all to a bell housing and weld. We have done several. Some creative grinding and you can hardly tell.

Mild Modifications / Re: The Hugger goes ZL-1....

Without big tires I think the 350 will do OK. Might want to think about that low rpm converter unless your motor likes to idle at 6 or 700 rpm.

I was on Ebay and bidded on some parts that were modified to the point of no repair. My bids were rejected and I wondered what they based their value on. Must have been this vendors store.

Does that 5 blade fan fit other engines? It seems I have seen more of them around.

Garage Talk / Re: Tire age vs. risk

I just bought a new trailer. I plan to buy some tire covers. A friend in the tire business says that they help with the UV damage. The tires on my Z are 17 years old but have never been left in the sun more than cruises, look great and ride great. Some off brand tires that came on one of my other cars looked good were so hard I threw them away.

Doesn,t the 400 turbo output shaft have a different spline count than the others?

I would worry about the VIN. Not much need to fake the trim tag.

I have never thought about it. It seems that this would help the bottom end which is what a street car wants. My search parameters have grown wider.

Looks like I lost the Ebay bid anyway. Might look for an oval port next time. I have never ran a big block tri power but I think it would have that day 2 cool factor. Keeping all the real stuff on the shelf if I do it.

Thinking of running a 427 tri power on my L78 just for cruise in shows. I have used rectangle port intakes over oval port heads, no problem. Can I use oval port intakes over rectangle port heads? Some power loss not a factor, just cruising and have way more power than tire now.
