General Discussion / Re: Plans for your camaro?
« on: February 13, 2018, 03:33:51 PM »
My plans are to get the 427 tripower setup that I have already rebuilt on my L78 for the cruise ins. If things stop popping up maybe this weekend. Also have a golf ball size dent in the Z (yes I did it) to have fixed and painted.

I did not see any engine pics. Would be interesting. I thought I read someone the L72 solid lifter was not available for the 69 big cars.

It may be many variations out there. Since serious racers used Traco engines, had several third members and gearboxes I wonder why they would even use a real Z28 since they did not need anything but the body. I would bet guys like Penske made their own out of whatever 12 bolt was easy to get. With only what? 216 factory JL8,s we may never have a actual this is what they ran.

I also had a friend with a chevelle  327 325HP. It was strong. Same engine as the 350HP. I tried to copy that engine in the 70,s. Pistons, cam, intake, ect. but found that until I went with the 2.02 valves I was wasting time. Same thing with the big blocks, add everything but until you go with the L78 size valves not much of a prize. They say big block oval port heads are best for the street and they are, as long as they have the large valves.

It is reasonable that the car stayed in your area. I tried the CL thing on my 69 with no luck. It was really popular to repaint these cars in their early years ( I think most went from something to red ) but there is always a chance. To me it part of the fun. Looks like your luck is running now so keep us posted.

Mild Modifications / Re: Tri-Power 427 fit under 69 SS hood?
« on: February 05, 2018, 12:35:09 PM »
Update on my set up. Got all the carbs sorted out and tested them on the test engine. A little tweaking and they worked really well. I have some pictures and a short video of it running on the 427 tester but I cannot get them to post. I have sent them to a fellow member if he wants to post. All information says it will fit but the true test is when I install it on my 69 SS. It is a 68 unit which is shorter than a 67 by over a inch. May get it on by next weekend. Also while checking Ebay for some choke parts I saw a plastic tote full of tripower parts with no bids. I tested the water with a number and well, I have that set up also.

If you use an IPhone when it says size, small, actual size, ect. does that reduce the photo to CRG,s standards?

Originality / Re: X66 standard trim
« on: February 01, 2018, 01:21:57 PM »
I don,t SS had anything to do with the quarter trim. It was part of the style trim package. Since your car is a 12A "welcome to the club" you probably do not have an X code on the tag. But check this site for options because there are several indicators of the style trim. All can be added but usually some are overlooked.

How about that extremely rare cruise control for a 69 Z. I think that is "one of ??" The only other one I have seen is that matching numbers Z with factory air.

There were more "M" blocks used than you would normally think. I remember years ago they were refered to as "Mexico" engines because they were thought to have been built in Mexico.

Really good point Kurt. I never thought about that. Never checked a bellhousing either. Of course I have a couple of friends who still have not found the mysterious vibration???

For 85K I think I will let you guys move on this one. Odd they were in a rush to get it done for a race but the carbs were not made until about 14 weeks later.
