General Discussion / Re: Ebay special order orange 1968 Z/28

There are things that do not make sense about this car. Pictures would make you think that almost nothing has been done to the car lately but the carb and distributer look to have been media blasted recently. Just??

General Discussion / Ebay purchase
« on: February 27, 2018, 01:37:29 PM »
I recently bought a fairly expense part on ebay using paypal. The seller seemed very nice but gave pretty good excuses for delaying shipment a couple of times. Well now he has dropped off the earth. No calls answered, no emails answered. The receive date on the listing has passed. What is my best way to go from here? File ebay or paypal or ?

unless your bore is perfect, in which case you should not need the piston, White Post comes with LT warranty and if you save your receipt they mean it.

I like your day two Edelbrock but for what you are doing I would use the L72 Al intake. They are not that expensive and they do sell a repop, Your setup just looks so factory installed.

I think I have tried most all (special) plugs. Split fire, platinum, ect. I really think what fires them is much more important.

Mild Modifications / Re: Tri-Power 427 fit under 69 SS hood?
« on: February 19, 2018, 12:35:08 PM »
While tuning my tripowers on our test engine I verified some things. This was on GM aluminum intakes. The rectangle port intake will fit over oval port heads. Use the rectangle gaskets. No noticeable affect on street driving. The oval port intake will not cover the ports on rectangle port heads. Since the bolts of course do line up I checked for an adapter but found nothing. If someone knows of one I could use one. For tuning I may try using the oval port gasket that is not cut to the intake lines but straight across but if it works I would not use it to drive because the gasket material would be the only thing preventing vac leaks. A metal plate similar to the ones for blocking or reducing the heat riser ports would work and I may try to make some by making a cardboard template and having them cut with a plasma cutter. Something else I found during testing was that the secondary return linkage on the tripower must work perfectly. Any binding or misadjustment will cause the secondary carbs to slightly open which really messes up idle and part throttle running.

Mild Modifications / Re: Vintage Air - Overheat
« on: February 16, 2018, 12:48:57 PM »
I think some air shrouds had a special seal added to keep air flow going through the radiator.Your added condenser not only restricts flow a little, in AC mode your are kind up preheating the air. I also run 160 tstats and drill a couple 1/8 holes in them for air pockets. It seems to help. One of my cars after trying everything I had to add the water wetter stuff. It did lower the initial temp at 5 degrees.

If it is constant pretty easy to find, if is intermittent might take a while. If it is shorted some testers beep when used. I connect it and while it is beeping go check the various devices and if the  beep varies I know I am close. For the hearing impaired a light works also.

Originality / Re: Dealer Help:

Wonder if the dealer code numbers had any type sequence as to when assigned? It would seem that if were retired then GM could reference the number for past dealers.

That might be good Bently. In an effort to create the ultimate garage I made mine so nice it is not fun anymore. No greasy parts laying around, no leaks on the floor, no smell of fuel ect. Just ain,t like the old days. Heck I can,t even crush out a smoke on the floor anymore.

Garage Talk / Re: Rare L72 69 Impala SS
« on: February 14, 2018, 12:43:40 PM »
The pics in the link remind me of another post I made. I was wondering why a COPO would have chrome valve covers not being a SS. I think it was said that by 69 all big blocks got chrome but these pics look like they only did chrome on the SS big cars. I don,t remember seeing a 335 427. I wonder if the cam could derate HP that much or was it something else? The 390 HP cam sounds pretty mild to me.

Decoding/Numbers / Re: New member trying to find out what I have- Barn Find
« on: February 14, 2018, 12:23:03 PM »
The VIN numbers do tell you that they are in the lost NCRS numbers so you might not waste your time. My 12A car does have the X code behind the seat but since the seller made a big deal of it I am not positive it was done at the factory.

I think seeing the (crud) is neat too. Some of the "survivors" I see could use some. And I agree, never scraped off greasey crud and found rust.
