Maintenance / Re: Temperature Gauge Fixed
« on: June 16, 2010, 06:15:17 PM »
Problem found. Ground from gauge housing to transmission tunnel was not connected. Problem discovered when turning on the gauge cluster lights caused the temp gauge to move to hot. All 3 other guages worked fine without the chassis ground but not the temp gauge.

It does exactly what Johnz comment says it should do. Key on wire off all the way cold, key on wire grounded to block all the hot.

Maintenance / Temperature Gauge

My 69 temp gauge does not work. It is a console gauge. I have tryed two sending units. When the ignition is turned on it moves and when you ground the sender wire to the engine it moves to hot but does not work.

My 12A L78 car has a 4356 carb dated 8A2 which i think is 1968 november second week which comes out to 2 to 3 weeks before the body date. My block is a CE so I don,t know the original engine build date. My original trans with the vin is dated the 335 day of 1968 and the rear axle is dated K128 Nov. 12 1968. Even the am radio is about 2 weeks before 12A. Most everything I have seen is 2 to 3 weeks. My seat belts are dated about the same. It seems most parts were made to order and not stockpiled.

Mild Modifications / Re: 69 RS CAMARO

Rick,s sells a kit that works. However there are some parts not included such as the headlight washer part that goes on the windsheild wiper motor. Repop fenders are set up for the headlight parts or you could make them. There is also a company that does the conversion in Charlotte NC paint and all. At any rate if you have a non stock cam such as I have you may not have enough vacuum to work them. Even if you have the vacuum they are finicky and hard to keep in good operation. With all said the ralley sport is a really pretty option.

Mild Modifications / Power glide to 400 turbo
« on: May 21, 2010, 11:00:47 AM »
I have a colum shifter that was a power glide. I have now a 400 turbo and it will not go to 1st gear only 2nd. Does anyone know what stops it or how I can adjust it?

If the L in the vin means LA and the N means Norwood what do Canadian cars say?

Norwood cars after 12A sometime during 12B 1968 should have X codes. My 12A X22 does not have the code on the trim tag but it does say X2 behind the rear seat in crayon.

I have read that there were 4889 69 L78,s built. Are there any production numbers as far as automatics or other. It would be a CX 400 turbo which I understand only came with solid lifter big blocks so if the COPO,s were subtracted that would be close.

General Discussion / Re: Color Help

I took one of my cars to a paint supply house and they set a special digital camera on the fender and then connected it to a computer and it analized the make up. He even had a Dupont and another brand camera and the makeups were slightly different. We mixed a pint of each and did some test cards. The other brand matched perfect. Once I got the code we sprayed base coat clear coat. I even later used that code for some touch up acrylic enamel. Of course to do this you need the car and not a picture to do it.
