General Discussion / Re: Original Drivetrains
« on: June 05, 2012, 08:07:38 PM »
I think 10% is a little high. Out of all the 60,s muscle cars I have had all the way back to the seventies, I don,t think I have ever owned an original drivetrain car. Junk yard drivetrains were the way to go back then.

My 69 has speedo, center fuel guage, and tach with no console. If it had a clock and tach there is no where for the fuel guage without the console. Also note that this setup has only temp and oil lights.

Mild Modifications / Re: Reproduction AM/FM quality?

For guys with 69,s Ausley Chevelles in NC sells 69 chevelle unit (exactly like the camaro for $299.00. Looks and sounds great, only thing is the display is digital but you can only tell if it is on. I had 2 others converted by the Florida guys which kept the original AM dial which looks good you just have to preset FM channels. I hear the same outfit makes all the units and others buy their parts.

My brother bought a 66 vette 427 date coded but a restamp. He bondoed over it because he did not want to hear, is that the original block? or hey that looks like a restamp.

I think HC is a 350 250HP 2 barrel. Others will chime in for a full decode.

Restoration / Re: Dash Pad Restoration
« on: March 06, 2012, 09:01:03 PM »
If you had another pad or a good picture to see where the nuts are it is not hard to remove because if you know where the nuts are you can feel them where they are hard to see. Using clamps and adhesive and care you can improve the looks a lot.

I hear performance a lot. A stock Z motor or L78 has more in it than tires that fit can take. Unless you do some serious mods for traction that extra performance just creates MORE tire smoke. IMO

General Discussion / Re: 1969 Big Block Runs Hot Camaro

Another simple try is the aftermarket additives. After a new pump and several fans after a cam change it knocked my temp down about 10 degrees. You can also get a themal digital laser at harbor Freight for about 25 bucks to check your guage and look for hot spots. It was in one of the mags. I bought one and it is a must have thing.

Mild Modifications / '69 Camaro 12 Bolt Noise

If the axle is hard to remove, I hook a chain to the lugs and the other end around a sledge hammer. They make an axle puller but the chain works.

General Discussion / Re: 69 L78 Question
« on: February 20, 2012, 03:34:31 PM »
69 camaro L78,s came with the CX 400 turbo with also came on the ZL1,s. I have a 69 with the original CX 400 and it is a blast drive with 355 gears. It shifts like nothing I have driven. A previous owner rebuilt it in the 90,s and said it was stock. Other owners back to the seventies all said it was always that way although my owner history stops in 77.

Decoding/Numbers / Re: 69 Z/28 ebay What do you think about the cowl tag?
« on: January 31, 2012, 01:50:05 PM »
I agree with the nice restamp. Too nice. I saw one on a corvette and mentioned that it was so clear and straight and the owner and the owner said, oh I did tell you it was a restamp didn,t I?

Mid year corvettes were the same. If you ordered a grille or gas lid for any year they sent a 66 model. It seems if a later part fit they discontinued the others.
