Thanks for vote Mike. I got the car thinking the engine would have to be gone through so it was a nice surprise when it ran. I drove it several times this weekend and it seems to do better the more i drive it. If it does break I will be right where I thought when I got it.

Maintenance / Miss in engine
« on: August 31, 2012, 04:02:03 PM »
Guys, I know this is a camaro forum but you have good input. I have a 77 trans am which had not run since 2006. The shaker scoop leaked and filled the engine with enough water to push the oil up in the cylinders. I installed new cap and rotor and wires and rebuilt carb. The engine has good compression but sometimes misses on # 6 cylinder. I removed the valve cover to insure the cam had not eaten a lobe and checked for weak or broken valve springs. Some say a lifter might have rust in it or bleeding down and some say a valve might be sticking. There is no clicking or popping through the carb or exaust. It does come and go while driving. Any thoughts?

If you need a 67 trans call Danny at 336 621 4327 in NC or the 4speedman at 803 581 5466 in SC. His web is www.4speedman.com. They have got 4 speeds and their work is top notch. I would think they are both in Carlisle PA for the vette show this weekend. They both takes trades also if the freight would not be so much.

Just go to Harbour Freight and get a temp gun for 29 or 39 bucks. Shoot your engine and look at the gauge. You would be surprised how many factory units are way off. A friends car showed 220 but the gun said 190.

I changed my 12A 69 back to the SS hood but I did not have the Z stripes to deal with. Nice car, you might want to get a hood just for keeps.

There was a Maroon 62 in NC a friend had about 73 that had a 302 in it. The guy who had was named Butch Chambers. I remember riding in it and it was fast. I don,t recall seeing it here since then.

The power steering is easy. Just a spacer for the bolt that would go against the exhaust. Don,t know about the A/C.

I think someone should buy it for 40,000 and put Hookers and Flowmasters on it and drive the thing. If someone wanted to buy it tell them what you know or don,t. It looks to be a nice ride.

Maintenance / Re: Oil on intake gasket
« on: June 14, 2012, 05:52:15 PM »
Looks to me that the heads might have been milled some. Then the intake ends sit on the block with little or no gasket space. One of my cars leaked after several gasket changes. After using no end gaskets and just silicone sealer, no leaks.
