Still a Camaro guy, but looks like the 2nd gen firebirds are getting a lot of attention.

Mild Modifications / Re: 73 M21 in 69 SS396 (Custom Shifter Mount)

If I remember right the 68 hurst shifter mounted with u bolts. My 69Z had one on it and trans guy said it was a 68 and traded me one that bolted to the  trans bracket. Mine is a no console car so I don,t if that is a factor.

The 73 I have is in a 66 GtO. The input is fine spline and the output appeared to use a 400 turbo yoke. I did not install it but the drive shaft does not look custom. I never measured the length. It also had a switch in the side cover which my rebuilder did away by installing a side cover without it. It was the guy who rebuilt my rearend that said output yoke was a 400 turbo type. I bought a complete 66 repop hurst shifter and it all just bolted on.

General Discussion / Re: Fire at Girlfriends where Z/28 is stored

My brothers house caught fire a while back. They lost most everything except the 69Z, the Z06, and the Harley.
When I got there the house was a blaze and my brother and his son were pushing the Harley out(would not start). People were surprised that the cars were the first thing out. Oh I forgot the dog was first.

The guy who just did my brothers 68 ( he knows how picky my brother is) had him work all the gaps to his satisfaction. They then took it apart for paint and they did drill some holes and bagged the shims. It looks great.

You guys are too young. In 69 I was driving my friends Carolina Blue 69Z. It had already had a L72 transplant. It hooked me forever.

General Discussion / Re: Radio delete
« on: September 15, 2015, 07:43:24 PM »
Tunes were popular in the 60,s. I remember buying an eight track player for my 61 impala in 69 and putting one in everything I bought after that. AM radio option was also cheap.

Restoration / Re: Fuse block clips - repair or replace ???

Not that I have tried it but I think I would use a small brush and Evaporust. Then a light coat of spray oil. I would spray or dip with the evaporust because it might damage the letters.
