Decoding/Numbers / Master Cylinders
« on: October 05, 2011, 03:30:48 PM »
I have two matser cylinders. My 08E car had when I got it a 309 dated 143. My 12A car has a 346 dated 52. Can someone decode these dates. Also on the site I have read that early 69,s may have left over 346,s on them. Does that mean my 346 could be original? And my 309 US appears to be original but the date does get close to the date on the original trans. Would they have built many and used them later as it appears they did on the 346,s?

General Discussion / crossram questions
« on: September 30, 2011, 12:25:45 PM »
Lasy night after reading some in Jerry,s 69 Z and SS book I noticed he says crossrams were not shipped in the trunk but were dealer over the counter items. It also says dealers probably did not install them because it voided the warranty. It made me think that I don,t recall seeing a window sticker, POP, or dealer invoice with the crossram on it. I see ads and show plaques saying original crossram car. Were there any? Hi po parts I bought over the counter in the 60,s and 70,s usually came with a yellow carbon hand written by the counter guy. If so how would you say original crossram car? Also could the hood come with the car or was it over the counter only?

All you decoders out there. I found a Holley carb List 1850, dated 392, # 5752426. My book goes back to 64 and this appears to be a late 63 or early 64. Anyone can help?

General Discussion / Green car on home page
« on: September 06, 2011, 07:45:58 PM »
Members,
The green car on the home page is mine. I have the owner history back to 1977. A J Rossell purchased it in Olyphant PA at that time. It was metal flake black then and was  repainted by Durbs Auto Body in Hazelton in 77. I think it was always a PA car. It is a L78 automatic with black standard interior, no tack, no guages. It is a 12a car but was first PA titled in 8/69. If anyone remembers it and can help track any previous owners it would be greatly appreciated. Mr Rossell cannot remember which has stopped my search. My e-mail is kwk@kbeco.net        Thanks

Mild Modifications / rectangular port intake on round port heads
« on: October 25, 2010, 06:56:07 PM »
My brother has whats is supposed to be a 72 454 in his 69 ss. He was told the heads were rectangular port but they are not. Since the car looks like a L78 he bought a 163 L78 intake. If installed on the round port heads will it work? Which gasket to use? Will performance suffer over and aftermarket aluminum round port intake? Any opinions appreciated.

My 69 temp gauge does not work. It is a console gauge. I have tryed two sending units. When the ignition is turned on it moves and when you ground the sender wire to the engine it moves to hot but does not work.

General Discussion / L78 Transmissions
« on: April 06, 2010, 03:18:47 PM »
I have read that there were 4889 69 L78,s built. Are there any production numbers as far as automatics or other. It would be a CX 400 turbo which I understand only came with solid lifter big blocks so if the COPO,s were subtracted that would be close.
