Garage Talk / Measurement Tools

Has anyone tried the calipers from Harbor Freight? I would use one very little but the price is right. I would just use it for general things, not engine clearances or things like that. I have their temp laser and it works great and one of the magazine tests rated it very well. Just trying to do better than a cresent wrench and steel ruler.

Reading an article about barn finds at macn last night. They must be getting hard to find. Camaros and others neat looking but missing born with engines, ect, repaints, rust buckets. One Camaro said big fish in NC that waited for big time angler. Here in NC we call the big fish a Carp. They wait so long because no one wants it for the price to pay.

General Discussion / Ebay purchase
« on: February 27, 2018, 01:37:29 PM »
I recently bought a fairly expense part on ebay using paypal. The seller seemed very nice but gave pretty good excuses for delaying shipment a couple of times. Well now he has dropped off the earth. No calls answered, no emails answered. The receive date on the listing has passed. What is my best way to go from here? File ebay or paypal or ?

Garage Talk / Tri Power
« on: October 19, 2017, 06:15:54 PM »
Thinking of running a 427 tri power on my L78 just for cruise in shows. I have used rectangle port intakes over oval port heads, no problem. Can I use oval port intakes over rectangle port heads? Some power loss not a factor, just cruising and have way more power than tire now.

General Discussion / Car magazines

Happy 4th. I read a lot of car magazines especially muscle car articles. I would guess a lot of the writers are not really serious car guys as much as writers. You see that many of the older guys who may have (been there) in the day are retiring. More and more I see articles that have many items that are not correct. I feel sure that they write what someone told them about the cars. But to publish things worldwide, it would seem that to check things for correctness would be wise. I read things like (original, rare, ect) that are clearly not correct. I even saw a write up on an original owner 66 GTO that had a spec sheet were the drawing showed a 67 model. Wonder if they ever thought about getting someone knowledgeable about the car type to proof read the article first?

General Discussion / 1969 Feature car
« on: January 31, 2017, 09:13:43 PM »
It says the car was bought new at a Chapel Hill NC dealer. Having been living in Durham NC all my life, which the city limits of meet Chapel Hill now, I know that the dealer would be Harris Conners Cheverolet which is now a BMW and others dealer. If the owner has names but no contact if he wants to PM me I may know some of them. A couple good friends worked at Harris Conner and the street race guys around here were a pretty tight group. Harris Conner was the only Chevy dealer in Chapel Hill which was and still is a small college town, home of UNC Chapel Hill from which the color " Carolina Blue " originated because it is the team color.
I also think I remember the car.

Originality / !969 Z in MC magazine
« on: October 03, 2016, 01:30:36 PM »
There is a 69 in one of the magazines with no console, no tach, and no gauges. It is an 05, X33, Norwood car. It does not have a center fuel gauge, the fuel gauge is where the tach would be. Is 05 a time where no tach was required? I have seen an original like this but cannot remember the date. It also has D80 spoilers but not on the trim tag which seems late for that.

Just saw an article on MSN said provided by one of the big magazines. Talks about most popular Camaros being the first gen 66 to 69 several times. Read several other published articles this weekend where options, engines, year models were incorrect. I know the today journalists are young guys writing about things before their day but it seems some publications could hire an (old) guy to proof read articles before they hit the newsstands. In the past few years it has seemed more common place.

General Discussion / Local club show in NC
« on: November 03, 2015, 07:54:28 PM »
Went to a show Saturday. For years there has been a rumor that deceased son,s dad had his 69Z in a basement since 1975. Well he was at the show with car. It was not a real Z. After talking to him us both being local and a few other old guys we discovered it was an old friend of mines 69 SS RS, hugger Orange, 4 speed,PS,PB,console, and factory tach. I told him he does not need doc,s, I rode in it  in 69. Old memories. No, he still will not sell it.
