So you can rent a 2010 Camaro from Budget, but my local dealer has only delivered 1 so far, has zero in inventory, and no idea when he will get another one.
Interesting marketing strategy GM!

Why do you say it is a Joke?  Here is a pic of the VIN tag..

Well, when someone new nonchalantly announces a great find, and then goes away without any evidence it's a bit suspicious and makes people skeptacle.

But, I see you are back with a picture worth a thousand words. That's quite a find, more details please.

That would be the first production Camaro made at the Norwood plant, and a 6 cylinder coupe.
Very cool find if it can be verified.
Can you post a VIN and trim tag picture or send them to one of the CRG members?

If you are posting these tags for future searches, I suggest you use a consistant form of referencing the body numbers so they can be searched.
NOR  42999 BODY
NOR  42999BODY
NOR42999 BODY
NOR42999BODY
Are all different to the search function.
Perhaps CRG can recommend a format?

If you are just posting for others to see, then never mind!

Decoding/Numbers / Re: Acid etch Vin recovery.

Make sure you do it correctly. The first attempt is supposed to yield the best result.
I remember reading about the technique and some important things are surface finish (polished), apply battery current to the area, use the proper acid solution, and have a camera ready to capture any image.
Do a thorough web search for more information, most of it will be on gun serial number recovery for crime labs.

You bring up a good point. I do not want to help the tag forgers, so I deleted part of my answer above.
It's best to post a picture of the tag on a potential purchase and get a consensus from the experts.

I know that body no.'s and VIN no.'s are not in sequence, but is there still a general correlation between the two? That is, would an expert looking at a trim tag be able to spot a fake from a body no. that would be out of range for a VIN/build date?

Yes, and, yes.

Trim tags also have a date that is much easier to correlate to the VIN than the body number is, and there is a chart for that, so thats how most trim tags are confirmed to align with the VIN.
I am sure there a few experts who have a large enough data base to also do it by the Fisher body number, as a check point in addition to the date.
Does that answer your question properly?
