Decoding/Numbers / Re: Future buyers beware
« on: November 18, 2017, 11:17:24 PM »
Out of ignorance and curiosity..... These tags are all over ebay from time to time and nearly always from LOS cars.
I guess I'm curious why?  Did LOS produce exponentially more vehicles than NOR or are they all for sale from the California area or ???

I have a few LOS/VN tags that I collected in the 90's while walking through the California junk yards. The kind of junk yards where you pay a fee to enter, then pick your own parts. They still had some of these cars before everyone decided every car was worth restoring.

Not sure about other states, maybe you are not free to roam and scavenge tags, or the Camaro's were junked long before tags became a thing to collect?

From the auction:

On Aug-21-17 at 16:59:54 PDT, seller added the following information:
Several additional points need to be added.  The Z-28 has been certified by Jerry McNeish and all of the numbers have been verified.  Also the engine block was 'decked' upon being rebuilt and re-stamped.  The smog pump is not the original that came on the car, but possibly a reproduction.

Decoding/Numbers / Original X33 trimtag?
« on: August 24, 2017, 06:37:41 PM »
I saw this tag on a car for sale by a very well informed seller. It looks like a reproduction to me.

Opinions please?

General Discussion / Re: Aftermarket Spring Perches
« on: March 23, 2017, 02:33:31 PM »

So, does anyone know where I can purchase good quality mono-leaf spring perches for my 67 that fit the 3" tube on a 12 bolt?

Sorry if this has been covered before.  I'm new here and searched but couldn't find anything.  Thanks.

Did you try Ebay/Summit Racing/Moser Engineering?

I have been told the engine and trans are considered legit..  Although I do not agree but I am dumb so use your own judgement..

The trans looks good and the DZ stamp and pad finish look good. It just looks like somebody tried to add a little extra proof with a home made stamp in the rough cast area. In hindsight it probably detracts from authenticating it.

The engine partial VIN is not even close to matching the transmission partial VIN. Different font, spacing, and poor alignment. Looks like it was added after reading a few early books on how to identify a Z/28.

Pretty sure the interior shots show sail panel lights, making the car used for interior shots a 1967 Camaro.

Here is an interesting article on how to make your own wood wheel using your original plastic wheel as a core.

I am pretty sure it started life as a regular plastic N30 wheel. Somewhere along the line it probably cracked, like they all do, and someone hand crafted real wood in place of the plastic.

Interesting, but not worth the $995.00 asking price IMHO.

The story is about the blue car. The silver car is the 302 hemi car in a museum and was mentioned in the article regarding where he got the cross ram parts for the blue car.

The whole story seems a bit embellished to me, but that's what happens over the years I guess.

I don't understand why someone would special order 4 wheel disc brakes and M22 but not 4.11 gears, as he used it mainly for cruising and street racing.

Must have a hell of a paper trail on that car since it was so special to him and he has a picture of him signing the paperwork at the dealer!

I am always looking for a nice 1968 N30 steering wheel and have seen hundreds of them. I have never seen one like this.  It's either a very rare item, or it was custom made. I am leaning towards custom made. Thoughts?

Originality / Re: 1968 D88 stripe ?
« on: January 09, 2017, 02:44:47 AM »
mark i sent you a pm

So, this thread is 11 years old. I believe mark is still around so perhaps you will get a reply.

Just for my curiosity, did you purchase a Camaro that supposedly had this stripe from the factory?

A red 1968 convertible VIN 124678N409488 perhaps?

Alternator is on the wrong side for 1968, that usually means engine replacement. Also makes it hard to read the engine stamp. Sure looks like it has been hot rodded and very unoriginal.
The fact he thinks a 10 bolt could be a SS makes me think he doesn't know much about the Camaro's.
Ask him the engine numbers and cowl tag numbers before even bothering if you are looking for original.

Bidding ended at $22,402 without even getting close to reserve of $62,895.

At least this round of bidders didn't get fooled.

Garage Talk / Re: GM Nationals No More....

I don't know the history of the split, but it sure is annoying that they schedule the two events in conflict with each other. Must be bitter rivals to do that. I am sure some of us would like to attend both events instead of being forced to attend one or the other.  The Corvette Nationals don't conflict with the GM Nationals.
