It's a blue on blue 327 car with tinted wind shield and rally sport option. Not much else.
Muncie and 12 bolt are not original.
Not sure what you saw that led you to believe it was a Z/28?

General Discussion / Re: 68 z/28 question of authenticity

Too much work for me.   I was just asking because 68 seems to be the most difficult year to determine a real car, either SS or z/28

It seems to be, but it isn't really. The only thing 67 and some 69 have extra to help is the trim tag, which is easily reproduced or replaced from a real car. Reproduced is sometime easy to spot, but not always. Replaced with a real tag from another car, not so easy to tell.

There is no short cut to determining a real car, and if you reply on a trim tag alone you will get burned. In addition, all 1969 LOS cars and early Norwood cars have no X codes, so same as all 68's.

I once checked what year was the favorite owned among the people who know these cars best, the CRG members. Can you believe it is the 1968 Camaro?

4th week of December car, must have had a few key people out for Christmas holiday that day. Perhaps a newbie on the adressograph machine?

One not to far away from my 1968 tag pic collection.

Are the 4's crooked, or is it a funny angle photo?

General Discussion / Re: 67 Camaro with four bolt door hinge?

Ed I have pictures that I can send you of this car it is unrestored and not touched for years.
In the pictures you can see what looks like original door hinges (68 style) top of metal door like 67 interior, 67 dash and I have trim tag picture. You can also see round hole for wiper motor.

That is a 1967 Camaro with a drivers side 68 door cobbled on. Unbolt those hinges and you will find the original 3 hole pattern underneath.

You are correct, it is not restored, but saying that like it's some kind survivor is far from the truth. That car is the opposite of a survivor or restored car. Its a bastardized need everything basket case.

Not worth buying unless you know what you are doing, can do it yourself, and get it cheap, with good title and VIN's/tags.

Ed McComas is the owner/author of that little book (now a pdf file); it's about all I've used for the last 30 or so years, since I helped him put a first listing together...  He sold this book via NCRS and at car shows for years, but he's decided not to do another printing.  I suggest downloading it and saving it to your desktop for easy access.. :)

It covers Chevrolet V8's engines from the '55 models thru the 1991 year...  This is his 5th revision since he first began selling it...

It's a handy guide and nice of the author to allow it's use, but I can't believe in all the editions and printings that Tonawanda is still spelled wrong.

I am curious why the paperwork didn't go with the car. Especially the title.
I can see the window sticker being kept as a memento, but how do you sell a car and keep the pink?

General Discussion / Re: 68 Z28 motor listed on CL

How things change...  :)

In late 1974, I paid $1000 for a complete good '68 Z28, orig engine, trans, etc... and drove it daily to school/work/etc for 2 yrs before trading it.

Now a part of an engine is $5500~!
But if you consider it, had you put that $1000 in the bank back then in '74, you'd have a lot more than $5500 now

I think you missed the comma. The $1000 was for a complete original car. That would be worth more than the $5500 asking price of this partial motor. A lot more.

Thanks. Sorry for my confusing post. I already figured out that interior colors was black and the convertible top was black based on the trim tag. I was trying to determine if it was an original SS based on the VIN & trim tag. That's all I have to go by at this point. I'm sure Chevy had specific combinations that were SS only but I'm having a hard time figuring it out.

Chevy did not have specific color combinations that were SS only. If I had to guess, grandma gold with a column shift was probably not an SS, even though that combo certainly could have been.

Only thing you can tell for certain with what you've got is V8 vs straight 6 from the VIN. Build it the way that makes you happy.

You would think the owner would know there were more that 20,000 Z/28's made in 1969 and used the actual number in the poster board to gain more credibility, instead of a round about number.
I also think he is trying to say it is the only known real Z/28 with an X11 trim code, and in addition it happens to have a special casting date of "M". I am assuming the stamped codes are all legit. It looks like he is quoting Jerry M. on the poster, but can't read it. Anyone know what it says?

Curious... Where did you find that info?

Also, I don't think my Camaro would have had a BBC because of the heater core in/out location.

Every year had a different Power Team Chart that showed what engine, transmission, and other options like AC would come with as standard, performance, economy, or available as special order.

They are hard to find online, but almost all the old school pre internet fact/data books have them. I am surprised CRG does not have that information published, but sounds like they are working on it.

It was in some dealer sales brochures that you can find online. Here is a link to one:

I've been trying to figure out the possible engine/trans combos that my 69 may have been built with...
the car has the original rearend (Axle code: BR 1206G1, Line2: E, Casting: 3894860NF) Read: 12-Bolt Posi 3.07
But the engine/trans are non-original.
And I know it is was originally a manual transmission car(clutch/brake pedals).

So, assuming the 3.07 gear ratio was standard and not an option...
What engine/trans combos would have been possible?

I have never heard the term "side oiler" used in reference to side exhausts. I always called side exhaust "Side Pipes" and a side oiler was a Ford thing having to do with the way their performance engines routed the oil pressure. Is there a Chevy side oiler?

"Saw Tooth" refers to the side profile being shaped like saw teeth. It's an old term, still applies.
