General Discussion / Re: Pony Car/Musclecar market going away?
« on: November 02, 2019, 12:45:52 PM »
Does anyone remember when you could buy an old muscle car, put a little sweat equity into it, sell it for double what you paid then do it all over again? That market is gone on our cars, but the next generation has their own cars this is possible with. Part of the hobby is deal making and that's hard to do with a mature market like first generation Camaro.
I follow BAT, and am amazed at what is considered collectible now. The market is so wide.

Has Canadian paperwork, you just can't read it in the ad. It's a real pace car of sorts, just not an Indy Pace Car as they would lead you to believe by looking at the car. No where in their ad do they claim it's an Indy Pace Car, you just assumed that based on how it's presented. Tricky eh?

Originality / Re: 1969 Dealer Order Form
« on: October 04, 2019, 02:08:05 PM »
Thanks guys. I found a copy for less than twice the original cover price  ;D ,  for a book published in the mid '80s.   When searching around this old Incremona blog popped up.  He mentioned an updated edition being in the works.  Any idea what happened to that?   You'd think a lot has been discovered in ~35 years.   Who knows... maybe one day I'll get my wish for the 'Book of Bill'.

Which cover price book did you get, the $19.95 with 2 authors or the $21.95 with only Incremona as the author?

I have the $21.95 version and was told by "Bob" the counter man at Classic Camaro on Gothard St that I should buy it because it was out of print due to an authors dispute.

I don't think there is as much of a market for any new books or blog spots or DVD's that the author was hoping for in that May 2012 blog post.

I have seen another fresh paint Dusk Blue 69 with a 71 paint code and the owner swore it was the correct LeMans Blue. I didn't argue, but wonder if there is a paint code out there mislabeled or just coincidence?

What makes that car worth $60,000?

Originality / 1968 RS rocker panel molding holes in rear quarter
« on: September 21, 2019, 01:50:28 PM »
On my 1968 RS, the holes in the rear quarter panel are exactly like the ones shown here on CRG in the options section.
That is, there are 2 large holes and one smaller hole for the rear quarter panel molding clips.
The clip kit I have contains 3 retainers of the same kind that all need the large hole.
I am thinking this is a mistake on the clip manufactures side and there should be a different type of clip for use in the smaller hole.
Does anyone have an original car they can confirm?

Nice story about you and your Grandpa looking for a car in the early 2000's. I had the same problem looking for a Camaro in the 80's. All the good ones sold the first day of publication in the Recycler!

Rare. L-30 275 Hp with 3 speed auto. Part of TH350 transmission test fleet. Surprised they shipped a test unit out of the country.

Is it metallic red or Island Teal?

Just make an offer straight up to buy the car. Leave all the trade and sentimental stuff out of the deal.

Decoding/Numbers / Re: VIN Tag versus Cowl Tag - smells fishy
« on: July 02, 2019, 06:03:02 PM »
I guess I find it difficult to spend $64k on a car that is not correct.  I'm fine with the tribute portion.  That seems nicely done.  However, I'd be very concerned for future resale with a car that has a mismatched VIN and Cowl tag.  Maybe it's no big deal.  Maybe some buyers don't care.  I'm not looking to buy it, I'm just curious if the market demand will pay the price for the mismatch.

You are mistaken. The tag appears to match and be original. All body tag style numbers start with 124 regardless of VIN and all body numbers differ from VIN.

They look correct to me.
Pretty obvious it's a tribute since the VIN is 123 and it's mentioned in the ad verbiage and video.
I especially like the 10-10 and X44 chalk marks with the 59-59 11D tag.

None of them had the Z before the 28

I broached this subject once before but never posted pics. Any input will be appreciated.

Due to the paint on the pad, I am not sure the subject has been properly broached/s

Well I know each guys car is his castle, but without sounding to up-ity, these were not necessarily considered rare collectibles.

I'm not sure "rare or collectible" come's into it, they're someones pride and joy that's been stolen. You comments come across as a bit flippant.

Read the comments in the news article. He was being relatively kind.
