Thanks Jim, yours looks about the norm of what I've seen so far, that being mirror base hides approximately 50 to 66% of gaskets CAMARO script.
Again, I never reviewed, saw, or read anything concerning a 68/69 Camaro Door Mirror Gasket with the "CAMARO" script until seeing one on a '69 at the 2022 MCACN show. That led me to want to know more about this type gasket and its use. Checking some friends survivors I discovered it used on both '68 and '69 models and that led to wanting to find a nice one for our 68. Even though I kept just about everything original to our '68 that was not used I had no memory of keeping the original mirror gasket except deciding to use a new one for restoration. Just assumed I threw it away like the original door handle gaskets replaced with NOS gaskets. Well that all changed recently while searching my hardware bins for an original pair of screws and bingo, there was my original mirror gasket. And yes, it has the CAMARO script and quickly realized why we did not use as the bottom area of gasket has its lip broke off (see picture) which I've found in originals a lot when the mirror was placed rearward within the gasket.

Note in this picture how our factory mirror placement made an impression and how 80 to 85% of CAMARO script shown originally, but the bottom area of the gasket is broken as the base of the mirror during assembly would have been placed on top of the gaskets lower lip instead of being placed within the gaskets 360 degree lip.

The '68 NOR 03D Survivor cars gasket (shown again) we reviewed a few months ago had the same issue (one of the best I've noted with entire CAMARO script shown) with the lower part of gasket broke off. Owner placed mirror in gasket to mirror the original location of mirror to gasket and see how the mirror would have been placed on top of the gaskets lip. Broken lip similar to ours.

If you go to my build thread I have a lot of information concerning original knobs. I took my knobs off, had the handles re-chromed and installed knobs back on.

Nice end of the year story to read and wish 2024 holds finding and possibly obtaining your Dad's old ride. And welcome to CRG.
Byron, knowing you a little I would not think you stopped keeping in touch with the current owner of your old camaro ride but sometimes just keeping in touch and building a relationship brings a huge award.
My nephew knew where his parents 67 Dodge RT they purchased new resided and owner would not sell. He did sell hm another RT he had with same color combo and sold same local dealership but again, not the one his parents owned. He kept in touch with the guy, talked to him at Carlisle, restored the RT purchased, and several years later sold him his parents RT. He call them RT1 & RT2.

Originality / Re: Center Link Inspection Markings?

I've not noted or read concerning consistent markings similar to driveshafts but the shaft has original finish look so why not? Document and I'd replicate. Assume you will restore by utilizing gun blue method and then go for it. Love the original things we find Hans.

Appreciate the feedback Chick.   Yes, I've documented the inspection marks and based on your and other feedback, will most likely attempt to replicate the graffiti.

And yes, I did hot blue the center link, following the process Lloyd used.

Hers's a link of the result and process:  https://www.instagram.com/p/CtFXFKCyAtZ/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link&igsh=MzRlODBiNWFlZA==
Looks great Hans!

Restoration / Re: 68 Camaro Restoration Plan - Bodywork costs.
« on: December 18, 2023, 11:47:48 PM »
Your 68 Convertible, is it an SS or any other tangible options other than a convertible? I ask that since it takes some skill to do what you need to do plus equipment and ability to weld. And as previously stated a convertible demands a good jig. Farming out that work will require a fair amount of labor hours along with part costs. Just be prepared on what the project is going to cost, and know both your short and long term goals/plans.
Good luck and take your time determining the route that will be most beneficial.

Friend sent me picture of his late 09B original paint with camaro script mirror gasket. I was hoping more members would be able to respond. I recently put a nice original I was able to find on our '68.

General Discussion / Re: Vintage Certification @ Camaro Nationals 2024
« on: December 09, 2023, 07:32:50 PM »
Nice to know Vintage Certification is back to Camaro Nationals next year. They did our '69 L78 Nova years ago and know of several  who had their Camaro's completed and it's quite a positive experience. One of only two solid lifter cars classified as "Time Capsule" per Vintage Certification is pictured here on CRG http://www.camaros.org/forum/index.php?topic=12083.0;all
