The essence of the hobby is having the car you always wanted and enjoying it. Sounds like you're there.

Yep she's a 1968 LeMans Blue Z28
Have you signed your 68 Z up on Team Camaro? We got a bunch of 68Z owners! http://www.camaros.net/forums/showthread.php?t=182224&page=11
As a owner of a 68 Le Mans Blue Z i find very it interesting myself. The prices are getting higher and i believe they will continue that trend.  A real 68 car is less available, harder to document, fewer to love ?  As for 69 cars more of them available than they ever made, so plenty to love? Only time will tell as new collectors look at the facts. As for now the styling of first gen. Z cars is forever lost in the 60's. For now that is for sure.

Excellent info George! I have found some of those orig. dipped paint (runs) are really adhered so as JohnZ has mentioned, it was a pretty good paint...... ;D
Liked the stamping as well! Our's is a different design bracket and just has a 'D' stamped between the two mount holes on the outward side.
Again, good info to know for resto work......

Well we love our 68Z and are spending loads of time and effort to restore it back to a high level but 69's are one great looking year Camaro and just more popular. Same is true for a 67 C2 Corvette compared to 63-66 C2's. All C2's are great (63-67) but the 67 overall is just flat out more desirable.

Originality / Re: Painting 12 bolt Differential detail Questions
« on: February 26, 2012, 07:29:15 PM »
George, thanks for the kind words. Here is the stamping on our adjusters. Assume it is '332'!
http://www.camaros.net/forums/showthread.php?t=182584&page=27
IMHO, a cleaner look is non-painted hardware and since you have the backing plates painted and the rear powdercoated that may make more sense. For me, it was an original look so everything was painted but to control the overspray on the emerg. cables they were painted at the same time but not installed so we could control the amount of overspray and fade out.
Now as far as holding up if you decided not to paint make sure you protect that hardware or after a few years it will show its age. So far I'm liking that "rust prevention magic!"
And what you have completed looks extremely nice. Nice work and good on ya!!!!!!!
P.S. See my other post concerning your rear brake bracket update.

1956
George, yes our 68 01B had a different bolt used for the brake hose bracket attached to the 12 bolt as well similar to yours and agree that our 68 AIM states to use the bolt from the cover but that did not happen apparently. Now that has me thinking that I should not have painted that bolt as it would be easy to assume the bolt since installed with the bracket after paint should just be phosphate.
Concerning the other bracket attached to the underbody-Did you notice any signs of it being a dipped part and were the screw heads painted? That bracket on our car had only a small amount of rust pits compared to the other brackets that had a lot. Our car had been media blasted which included the underneath so probably evidence of paint was taken off but interesting enough I did not notice or remember any paint where it was secured to the underbody though.
Good info.......

Restoration / Re: 1969 Hood Hinge Color
« on: February 26, 2012, 04:50:28 AM »
Mark, many of us use Palmetto phosphate concentrate and its fairly easy but the hood hinges due to size are a little more than many of us want to handle. I recommend having them done by one of the two already mentioned. Do yourself some favors and complete searches on the phosphate process as I'm sure it would come in handy for your restoration. A glass beader is most important for the prep work.
Good luck and even more important, welcome aboard!

Ron, have you done any searches?  ;D There has been a thread running for months concerning driveshafts- http://www.camaros.org/forum/index.php?topic=7861.0
and many threads on suspension marks. Here is one on a 69Z- http://www.camaros.net/forums/showthread.php?t=172310&highlight=drag+link
Quanta sells kits with instructions on where paint marks go. Believe the 67 to 69 kits have the same details on where or what to do.
http://www.gastanks.com/Camaro-Chassis-Detailing-Kit/products/1950/
I looked for and was lucky enough to verify markings found on our camaro so we could duplicate during restoration.
Example on ours (more in that thread)-  http://www.camaros.net/forums/showthread.php?t=182584&page=29

I thought all these were dipped black?  All of the 69 ones I cleaned were.

YEP, Just restored a unmolested 02B Van Nuys Z28, and they were black, they had runs and pretty sure they were dipped. The brkt that holds the 2 lines together was natural steel.

I'd be curious to see what others have noted on 67/68 front brake line (4 of them) brackets? I noticed no paint on ours but that does not mean its that way. Mike and others, any observations?

You are correct, it was brown  ;D
Bet they can be extremely hard to find.......

I know the 5 brake brackets on our 68 were just bare metal pieces and the ones they repro are bare stampings except for In-line Tube, who has theirs painted black.

Head marking #71 is a good one! As noted George and I both have it in our door hinges and I have noted that head marking on several other Camaro's but interesting enough I have only noticed it used for door hinges.

Chick - Thanks for this post. I've been searching for someone else who has the "LF" fastener. I am trying to find out when this particular fastener was used/introduced which also brings up another important question; I think most of us know the "Pinch-Point" & "Dog-Point" fasteners were introduced for use early into the First Gen. run. The question I had was; "When was the "Roll-Point" Machine -Thread bolt developed for use. I found this thread over at TC that I hope John doesn't mind me posting. John actually developed the "Roll-Point" fastener in conjunction with Anchor for use beginning with the '68 run. Maybe this can shed some light on wether or not the "LF" screw is a legit factory fastener.

6Th post...3rd paragraph; http://www.camaros.net/forums/archive/index.php/t-97516.html
Saw that "roll point" but until now did not know what it was called or have seen one in first gen camaro. Thanks Marty for the thread and later in that thread JohnZ mentioned "Production applications started with late '69 "B"-bodies built at Flint Assembly and spread from there in '70-'71 to other plants and other car lines."

Compared our original 01B 68 to aftermarket screws and they are exactly the same.
Picture of orig. bolts and bagged replacements. Wish they were all that way or easy!
